Yesterday afternoon Taryn and I were driving along Bay Street on our way to the ultrasound listening to our favourite radio station. The Flys' "Got You (Where I Want You)" came on, and we instantly began singing along. "Got You (Where I Want You)" is over five years old now, but it was great then and it's great now. It's a fantastic single.
I haven't heard a note from The Flys since. Out of curiosity I looked them up on the web today to see what's up with them, and there's nothing after 1998. There were several articles written in late 1998 about the success of "Got You (Where I Want You)" and the promise for this Hollywood quintet but then it's as if they dropped off the face of the earth. Their official website isn't even active any more.
It's now safe to file The Flys alongside Dexy's Midnight Runners and Chumbawamba as one-hit wonders. It's too bad though. "Got You (Where I Want You)" was a great song.
