pity?

@TorontoMike

Did the group have pity & give the poor chap who finished at the bottom last year first pick this year?

@pity?

There's no pity in this pool.

Been in MANY playoff pools B4 & U never ever want to pick 1st with descending picks & then U don't pick until last in 2nd round. Best position is a middle pick.

Let's see.... Mike has lots of Kings, lots of Ducks, of course they were both shutout!

Leading after Game #1 in all the series. Beginner's luck? Time will tell.

If Washington and Leafs can come back, old AC will look good!.

35sa? I caught me a type-O!
I will enjoy my time near the summit though, before my team is entirely wiped out!
Sempre Fi, you glorious bastards.

Raptors Devotee (Brian Gerstein)

Thanks a lot Colombus blowing a 2-0 lead, now having to win the last 2 games. 2 teams, them and the Caps who are perennial chokers, but at least the Capitals have won a playoff series before, something the Bluejackets have never done, and apparently will keep the streak going.

@TorontoMike .. We see a slim window for you to still pull out a victory .. Keep the faith!

@James .. When your dad gives you pool advice, just smile & nod.

Go Leafs Go!

I only drafted Kings because my boy told me I should!

James is a genius, tells his dad to pick Kings players then picks players on heavy favourite teams himself.

His team looks great heading into round 2 with all those Jets and Lightning players.

Well played James!

@Toronto Mike - Did James (aka Lou) tell you: "It's just an unfortunate set of circumstances".

Mike
I know James is your son & in the same pool & tells you to pick the KIngs a team that wasn't going anywhere in the playoffs. Is James also your trainer as another picks politicians & teams that HER trainer says?
BTW I'm in 2nd place of 8 people in our pool as took 12 players each & I chose a few from top teams & haven't lost a player yet.

I drafted 11th. That means the top scorers on the better teams are all gone by the time I make my first pick. Grabbing the top scorer from the Kings, back with Quick playing well and facing an expansion team, did make some sense at the time.

Then, once you have that top scorer, you go big or go home. Next thing you know, you have five Kings.

We don't all have access to the crystal ball @andrew uses.

Lou aka James

Someone short-sheeted my bed last night.

I can't prove who did it but I do have my suspicions!

Alexi Chabane

Wooo! Go Caps! If they can best the Pens I am in good shape.
It also looks like everyone will safely get over the Lambster line.

Once the Kings and Ducks went out, I was all about passing the Lamster Line.

Thank goodness for Jake Guentzel!

The funny thing is, I'm okay with finishing dead last, in fact I kind of enjoy it, so long as I'm over the Lamster Line!

@Mike
Total hockey illiterate here. What is this Lamster Line? Any relation to being in a state of lameness?
(Which sadly, most days, is my default mode!!)

@bsmntdwllr73

Many years ago, a drafter named Lamster recorded 22 points in this pool, the lowest total ever posted.

The Lamster Line was born... and if you're not going to be in the money, you want to be over that line.

@Mike
Thanks for the explanation!! My late father was a part-time, hardcore semi-professional gambler
complete with his own pool hall bookie, but I never inherited either that particular vice or a general
understanding of sports pools in the least. Now if I had Biff's Big Book of Sports Almanac, however...!

The only thing close to gambling I do all year is coughing up $20 for this annual pool. I don't participate in any other pools, I don't buy lottery tickets, I don't visit casinos...

April 26, 2018 / 09:36

@Mike
I spent a lot of time at the racetrack as a child, in fact my father was the front for a rich kid he knew
whose father didn't want him owning race horses. My entire family ended up in the winner's
circle at Greenwood Raceway in 1986 when one of them actually won! I've been to Rama a couple
of times for concerts and Atlantic City (in the dead of winter, LOL!! No under the boardwalk for
me!!) As for scratch tickets, I bought two when I was underage, won a couple of free tickets and
then retired a champion!! I take a chance every time I leave my hovel, so the last thing I want
to do is be 'brave' and throw my few shekels down the crapper!!!
