Google Street View Now Available in Toronto

Published by Toronto Mike on October 7, 2009 @ 13:57 in Toronto News ~ Toronto Focus

googleTorontonians can now check out their streets, homes and neighbourhoods on Google Street View. Yes folks, all that footage we saw being taken by the Google cars has gone live.

I've been to Google Maps this morning just to check this out. It's pretty slick. Below is the northeast corner of Windermere and Bloor.

Considering you can see my license plate clear as day in the driveway of my house, this feels very weird. I never objected to it in the States though as it made highway driving very easy, but damn...

Bizarre, why would I make this up... but now it's blurred. Well, good I guess.

It was cool seeing my motorcycle parked in front of the office.

Question for Mississauga Mike: Does it really matter if the plate is blurred out? You don't cover them up when you're on the street or parked in the driveway.

Mike I sent you my view of the google camera car earlier this year.

Here's google street view of me taking the picture of them.

So how does someone get to the street view idea? I can't seem to find it.

When you're in Google Maps, and you see that yellow man above the zoom metre, drag that yellow dude to the street you want to view.

@torontomike: thanks for the advice.

I checked out my old haunts - nice to see the Golden Mile Supercentre is still around, but what's going on? Zellers is moving out? Wow, it'll make an empty, boring mall even more empty and more boring!

*sigh* Of course they capture my house when I was doing some cleanup and had put some garbage out to the curb early...

... But on the plus side, like Horonynous, I too have been immortalized by the Google Car. If you look at Bayly & Salem in Ajax, you can see me making a left turn. :)

Yeah doesn't really matter, initial reaction that it's a little creepy but... any person can theoretically find an address and drive to it. Not sure why this felt any worse.

Big Brother didn't have to force anything on us, they just had to make it cool...
