Best Toronto Blogs

cntowerLet's take the pulse of Toronto's blogosphere. I'm breaking blogs into three categories: best independent blog, best professional/media blog and best Toronto Mike blog. That last one is a little biased, so we'll start with it.

Here are five blogs I'd like to recognize because they're run by frequent commenters on this blog, torontomike.com, or by friends of yours truly.

Here are five blogs that I believe to be one-man-shows. They're independent and written and maintained by a single person, just like this blog you're reading right now.

Here are five blogs I read, even though the writers are paid by large media empires (or small independent organizations) to write 'em.

I've always felt this city was under served by the blogosphere. We deserve better blogs. Please start the next great Toronto blog.

What other cities do you think beat Toronto at Blogging?

Mike, thanks for the shout out for Buffalo Boy, Even though you run it its still an honor and a privilege to be mentioned with Freddie, Humble and some of the other great blogs that you mentioned. Its a lot of fun!

FYI Spacing does not pay any blog contributors, it is an all volunteer effort.

That's said, why do you qualify it by saying "even though they get paid". Getting paid is fine.

In hindsight, "even though they get paid" doesn't exactly convey what I was trying to say. In theory, I get paid some money via ads myself, and getting paid doesn't make you a bad blogger, it just makes you a smart blogger.

Spacing aside, I didn't realize contributors were doing it for love of the game, many blogs are written to complement a profession. For example, Damien Cox blogs for the Star and it's usually pretty good, but it's just an extension of his column.

Marc Weisblott will blog for Eye Weekly (Torstar Digital) because they'll pay him a salary. Mike Stafford is an awesome blogger, but he's blogging for his radio program. BlogTo and Torontoist are small armies of writers and I'm pretty certain they're not doing it for free... correct me if I'm wrong.

Getting paid isn't bad. Breaking them out was an attempt to separate the independents, working alone, from the empires.
