The Leafs Love Unproven Goalies

leafsThe Toronto Maple Leafs love to sign goaltenders, but only if they're unproven. This started last summer when we sent Tuukka Rask to Boston for Andrew Raycroft. Raycroft had one decent season and one horrible season under his belt, and we wanted him in blue and white. Go figure.

About a year later, somebody realized Raycroft might not be the #1 we need, and we traded for Vesa Toskala. Toskala, bless his heart, had a solid season last year, but he's never been a #1, and that makes him a rather unproven commodity. We threw 8 million bucks at him to ensure he's in blue and white for the rest of the decade. Go figure.

Earlier today, we signed Scott Clemmensen to a one-year contract. Clemmensen, you might recall, played that final game of the regular season for New Jersey when we needed them to beat the Islanders to slip into the playoffs. Backing up Martin Brodeur, he only got in 25 games over parts of five seasons. No wonder we wanted him in blue and white. He's now third on the depth chart.

Of course, our future rests on the shoulders of Justin Pogge, the most unproven of the unproven. Why the hell not? In the post Cujo/Belfour era, that seems to be par for the course.

How long before we lure Mark Gowan out of retirement?

How many goalies do we need unless JFjr. has something in the works with Mr. Raycroft.
He better or this is his final straw.
Mr. Muckler take a hike - we need somebody who can put together a team that can win when the chips are down. Your TOO old & you had an opportunity last year & you blew it - BIG TIME.
Bring back Punch Imlach - sorry - he could do better.

Hey guys its not so bad....At the rate the league is going, (50 million dollar contracts to 23 year olds AKA Thomas Vanek) Buffalo and all other small market teams will be closing up shop. I may be a full time leafs fan sooner than later. Where is the league getting the money to hand these contracts out?
The leafs have a goalie and a GM problem...at least they dont have a money and a small market problem.

This is true. We might suck, but at least we know we're sticking around a while.

I just want a cup before I die, and if I play my cards right and eat my vitamins, that could buy us 50 years.

I was fortunate to see the Leafs parade on Yonge St. in 67 (I was 9 years old & school was out that day).
Younger generation will have to live to 100 (like my grandma) to see this happen again - Sorry.

Dale: At least Muckler has seen his team do something the Leafs haven't done in 40 years...get to the finals.
Buffalo Boy: Don't bother with the Leafs, you're better off adopting a NY team as your team...and that's not saying much.
Mike: Small consolation. It's like saying you're happy with a perfect attendance record. BTW, you'll need a fountain of youth (not vitamins) if you want to see the Leafs win with this regime. Maybe if all other NHL teams fold, the Leafs will have a chance.

same story everyday. leafs sports makes good money yet fail to deliver on a strong team for the last 7 years. As dar as goaltending the veryface that they dont have a permanent goalie coach shows how commited toronto has been to goaltending. booourns.
