Green Day - 21 Guns
Published July 2, 2009 @ 16:53 in SLS

slsI'm submitting a song for SLS22 consideration. I'm submitting "21 Guns" by Green Day.

Green Day's "Know Your Enemy" was noticeably absent from the recently unveiled SLS21. I didn't mind it, but I thought it was a little too "American Idiot" and I know these guys can do better. "21 Guns" is a great deal better.

Although I won't see it for a year, I hear this song is prominently featured in the critically lambasted Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Billy Talent - Rusted From The Rain
Published June 14, 2009 @ 18:26 in SLS

slsI'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Rusted From The Rain" by Billy Talent.

We've been hearing Billy Talent on the radio for six years now, so maybe it's time I get over the fact they bastardized the spelling of Billy Tallent.

This is a nice single from this Streetsville band. I'm seeing them on Saturday.

Mother Mother - Body of Years
Published May 26, 2009 @ 10:58 in SLS

slsI'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Body of Years" by Mother Mother.

This sweet indie band is based in Vancouver. They released O My Heart in late 2008 and this is their first big radio single off the album, at least in this neck of the woods. I dig it.

Sam Roberts - Fixed to Ruin
Published May 15, 2009 @ 14:21 in SLS

slsI'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Fixed to Ruin" by Sam Roberts.

I've seen Sam Roberts perform three times, and he's always great. I read a quote from him several years ago in which he says his greatest love was "dirty fuckin’ rock ‘n’ roll." I've always loved that quote.

This is his latest single as he keeps on rockin'.

Cage the Elephant - Ain't No Rest For The Wicked
Published May 8, 2009 @ 20:55 in SLS

slsI'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" by Cage the Elephant.

Cage the Elephant sound a little White Stripish on this track, but I dig it. Maybe I dig it because it's White Stripish?

In Indian religious philosophies the elephant is a symbol of strength and wisdom, representing good energy rather than negativity. Hence, this band wanted to cage the elephant. Now you know the rest of the story.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero
Published April 29, 2009 @ 08:58 in SLS

slsI'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Zero" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

The best new album I've been spinning this week belongs to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. There are several hooky singles oozing out of It's Blitz, including "Zero", a song they recently performed on Saturday Night Live.

I found it interesting that they went with "Maps" as their second tune on SNL. "Maps" was on SLS11 which means it's six years old now. It's still fantastic, btw. When "Zero" makes the cut for SLS21, it will be the Yeah Yeah Yeahs fourth appearance.

k-os - Burning Bridges
Published April 26, 2009 @ 14:21 in SLS

slsI'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Burning Bridges" by k-os.

Did you know Kevin Brereton chose the moniker k-os because it stands for Knowledge Of Self? I'm always unsure whether it's supposed to be typed k-os or K-OS. I see both all over the place.

Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch
Published April 20, 2009 @ 13:44 in SLS

slsI'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Panic Switch" by Silversun Pickups.

"Lazy Eye" was one of my favourite songs of 2007. "Panic Switch" is no "Lazy Eye", but it's that cool Silversun Pickups sound that'll hook you.
