Published by Toronto Mike on April 4, 2012 @ 16:26 in High Park Cherry Blossoms
Last May I was literally yelling at the High Park cherry blossoms for being late. This year, it seems they're way ahead of schedule.
The two weeks of summer we enjoyed in March really sped things along, and now the High Park Nature Centre is reporting we're only 4-6 warm days away from full bloomage. So get your camera ready so you can take pics like these.
If you're wondering where the best place is to snap pictures of the High Park cherry blossoms, here's my favourite place.

I made my annual pilgrimage yesterday to High Park to take pictures of the Somei-Yoshino cherry trees. The window of bloomage for these cherry blossoms is pretty small, so if you want to get your shots I wouldn't wait too long. Today would be perfect.
Here are a few of my favourite pictures of the High Park cherry blossoms, followed by a slideshow of all my shots. Enjoy nature's fireworks.

Ideally, they'll be ready for their close up on Saturday when I'd like to take some shots, but it's gonna be close...

Why do I feel like the official High Park cherry blossom apologist? Yes, they're late. Compared to the last few years, they're super late. Here it is May 2nd and the High Park cherry blossoms have yet to bloom.
I was in High Park this afternoon, to check on the buds. They're starting to open, but they still need another 4-6 days before peak bloom. I'm hoping this weekend will be the ideal time to take photos of nature's fireworks.

Cherry Blossoms in High Park
Published by Toronto Mike on May 4, 2008 @ 13:11 in High Park Cherry Blossoms, Toronto News ~ Toronto Focus
I spend a lot of time at High Park. Every year, at about this time, the cherry blossoms at High Park bloom. Cherry blossoms are nature's fireworks, so beautiful but oh so brief. Before the know it, the blossoms have blown away.
From Wikipedia:
High Park in Toronto, ON features many Somei-Yoshino cherry trees (the earliest species to bloom and much loved by the Japanese for their fluffy white flowers) that were given to Toronto by Japan in 1959. Through the Sakura Project, the Japanese Embassy donated a further 34 cherry trees to High Park in 2001, plus cherry trees to various other locations like Exhibition Place, McMaster University and the University of Toronto's main and Scarborough campuses.
James and I took a trip to High Park today to soak it all in and snap some pictures. If you live in Toronto and have never seen the cherry blossoms in High Park, get over there now because this won't last much longer.
Here's a photoset I just created with the many photos I just took.
