The Grinch Chimes In
Published December 19, 2006 @ 14:50 in Guest Blog Entries
I just received an email from The Grinch. The Grinch is a well deserved alias for a curmudgeonly dude I used to work with. This message is a little less Grinchy than usual
Well its that time of year again and I would like to wish Mike and all his readers a Merry Christmas.
I would also like to say to everyone that at this busy time of the year it is easy to rush through the holidays getting ready and then its over. Take the time to enjoy your familly with happiness. I was always a grinch at this time of the year and now I am missing someone that was very important to my whole life and I wish that I had taken the time to enjoy it more.
Mrs. Grinch passed away suddenly in 2006. If you're out there Grinch, Merry Christmas to ya. I hope to bump into you again soon. Your advice is very wise.

Mad About Madd Madness
Published December 16, 2006 @ 07:49 in Guest Blog Entries
I received an email yesterday from twins from bolton. He's upset at the recent Toronto Star report that Mothers Against Drunk Driving only gives 19 cents of every dollar to victim services and the fight against drunk driving. Here's what he wrote.
This whole MADD charity situation has gotten me totally PISSED off. We have donated much coin to this supposed charity where only 19% goes to actual funding & the rest to telemarketers & door to door fundraisers. We feel we have been ripped off.
Yesterday they called again (as usual every month) for their donation. I questioned the person on the phone regarding the % actually used & they had no response. No more coin going to a worthy cause - too bad THEY BLEW IT. $ going elsewhere. My wife is sending a letter (& no donation this month) asking for some splaining to do LUCY.
19% doesn't sit well with me either. It's like when I sold those chocolate bars in primary school to pay for a new playground. I got two bucks for each box, but the manufacturer walked away with more than half that amount. St. Pius X even tore down that playground and built a new one.
Are you now sceptical of all charities? Has this recent controversy adversely effected your holiday giving?

The Guest Blog, 2003 - 2006
Published November 4, 2006 @ 07:55 in Ch-ch-changes, Guest Blog Entries
I launched the Guest Blog service on November 16, 2003. At the time, this site was hand-coded without any CMS, and comments weren't accepted. A Guest Blog was an easy way to promote a sense of interaction. If you had something to say, you could say it.
Now that this site is powered by Movable Type, anyone can comment on anything. For those who enjoy following the comments, a few recent changes have made this much easier. Recent comments are now displayed on the Recent Posts, Recent Comments & Categories page and you can subscribe to the comments RSS feed at http://feeds2.feedburner.com/TorontoMikeComments.
Over the years there were many guest blog entries, and you'll find them all archived right here. Frequent contributions were made by Jill/jewelgurl, twins in bolton, Roshan, James, Vanessa, The Grinch, Kara, Annemarie and Mike H. If you guys or anyone else wants me to write about something in particular, contact me.
If you're looking for one page that lists every page on this site including RSS feeds, the site map is always current. The Guest Blog had three good years, but now it's mainly used by evil doers as a tool for spamming me. She did not go gently into that good night.

Hey the Maple Leafs seem to have picked up speed and are ready to take a crack at the playoffs! It seems to be a lot more exciting than last year and last year was actually great! Buffalo seems to be all conquering and will be one of the favs to win the Cup. Pittsburgh seems to have the team of the future - let them come to Hamilton. I even heard that Ballsile wants to build a new stadium in Kitchener-Waterloo. Nah, Hamilton is cool! Although my friends in Winnipeg want a team there. And what about Quebec City?
Roshan
On December 2, 2005 I wrote this Leafs recap following a 4-0 win over the Panthers. You'll see we were 15-9-3 at the time. We all know what happened last season. Still, I'm cautiously optimistic.
I wouldn't bet on a team coming to Hamilton. As neat as it would be, I can't imagine it happening.

Good Afternoon Canada & and Toronto Residents Specially,
As I watch the day approach when hopefully the Bush Gang in Washington D.C. will get its comeuppance in the upcoming mid term American election. As of late I have been reminded, ever so horribly, that we Canadians live in the greatest country in the world. We have one of our citizens now living, as an American citizen named Mr. Michael J. Fox in the U.S.A. Mr. Fox, has publicly supported a Democrat Candidate in the State of Missouri. Of late Mr.Fox has been viciously attacked by a Republican mouth piece named Rush Limbaugh. I'm sure this is all common knowledge, but I think the recent attack from a pill popping hypocrite launched on a man with Parkinson's Disease is way over the line.
It pleases me to think the actions of a Canadian is in effect, the last nail in the coffin for republican hopes to win key ridings in November. Mr. Michael J. Fox was born in Edmonton, Canada and lived in Burnaby B.C. I know the area of Burnaby quite well; but I never thought much of Burnaby outside of the fact that a great hockey player "Burnaby Joe" [Sakic] is also from Burnaby. I so wished he played for the Leafs.
All of the Coulters. Limbaughs, & O' Rielly's can't (I hope) save this one. When I see a man with a terrible disease being kicked by a republication fanatic I can only thank my lucky stars I'm a Canadian. It's wonderful how a Canadian will play so much into the republican downfall come the first week of November. The system works.
Drew C.
The Leaf fan in B.C.
In case you've been living under a rock, here's Michael J. Fox's endorsement ad and here's Limbaugh's disgusting retort. The entire episode turned my stomach. I almost wrote about it a few times, but I figured there were enough people throwing their two cents in that bucket.
Another Canadian said it best. Let's impeach the President.

Many things to tell you - the first is that I bought a new computer finally! I have waited more than three years since my very very old but faithful (bought in Dec 1996) Pentium 100 died on me. I had had three hard disk drives crash on me and the last straw was the SMPS & mother board dieing. Now that I can afford to get a new one, I got an AMD Cempron, 80 GB HD, spanking new pc that I got assembled. And for the first time in my life, I am now online from home!!! I am so excited about it.
Excited about the new NHL season although my Sens have not started well. I hope Toronto & Vancouver does well so that we can have all 6 Canadian teams in the playoffs and perhaps even an all-Canadian Western & Eastern finals with an all-Canadian Stanley Cup finals (with Ottawa winning ofcourse). And what's this I hear, Jim Ballsile has bought the Penguins? Is it adios Pittsburgh and hello Hamilton? I can imagine the Copps Coliseum rocking with a full capacity crowd egging on the team. What do u think the new team should be called if they move to Hamilton? The Hamilton Hammers, Hamilton Heroes, Hamilton Beavers?????
Roshan
I hate to burst Hamilton's bubble, but this is yet another tease. Hamilton isn't getting an NHL team. I'd watch for the Las Vegas Penguins, although Hamilton Beavers has a nice ring to it.

Could mister Harper be a Leafs fan? He won't say. But, there be speculation afoot, and his being all smiles when they scored last night is certainly fueling that fire. Can't say it'd surprise me, seeing as he *is* Toronto born, but... the irony of it is just too amusing. I wonder if this will spark the all too familiar Senators crowd's irritation level a little...
James
I saw our Prime Minister favouring the blue and white. You're right, he's a native Torontonian. His good taste in hockey teams is one of his only admirable qualities.

Well well well, what do you think Mike the leaf's are off on their quest for the stanley cup. Most likley a version of Monty Python's quest for the Holly Grail, bumbling around like a bunch of morons.
Will the leafs average more than one goal per game this year? probalbly not who the hell is going to score other than Mats?
It's going to be a long year Mikey
the grinch
When Paul Maurice realizes that Aubin is his best bet between the pipes and if someone other than Mats can figure out how to score, we'll win some games and an 8th place finish in the conference is not out of the question. Of course, a 12th place finish isn't out of the question either. Sigh.

Clarington Coverage Of upcoming Municipal Election:
I have posted twice in this forum to share updates on the municipal election here in Clarington. During my initial post I was made aware of a website that specifically focuses on the happenings of Clarington: http://claringtonwatchdog.blogspot.com/
As noted in my posts there is certainly a lot of contraversy and interest from the community members of Clarington and this specific site has received alot of heat and has come under attack for some of their posts.
I too have made some blog entries on my website: http://jewelgurl.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html#8544744827624956196
related to the election and last night I received an anonymous warning
posted on my comments.........hmmmmmmmmmm, things are definately heating up.
Jill
This reminds me of a documentary I saw once about a mayoral race in New Jersey. Don't f with Clarington.

Today I celebrated my grandmother's 100th Birthday at her nursing home in Ajax. Two of her 3 sons are still alive & I went for my Dad who passed away in 1991. Mentally she is very limited & physically she's like an 80 year old. Still able to walk but spends most her time in her wheelchair. A larger party to be held on Sunday with more of the family.
Living to be 100 - I don't think so. Her father lived to 98 years with both legs amputated during WW1.

Happy birthday to Dale's Grandmother! Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II sends messages to Canadians who are 100 years of age or older. Did you make the request?
