A note about the Leafs...

They're making us sweat it out, but I still believe they'll make the playoffs this year.

But really, when we mapped out the Shanaplan, this was a year to improve but there was no pressure to make the playoffs. That's next year. This is simply a year to take a big step forward and play better hockey. That's been accomplished.

I'm hoping I can sit down and watch playoff Leafs hockey with my oldest, but we'll lose in the first round and will learn from that. It's all good!

If the Leafs and Raptors make the playoffs, what a time! I would love to go down to Jurassic Park and see a live game there - maybe my friend will go with me.

Happy Friday! My eyes hurt, because I had some surgery - I need sleep.

Well, my Coyotes won last night. Too bad they won't make the playoffs. No, I'm not first, but I don't care about that. Well, my Diamondbacks won last night. Great game. They are 3 and 1. Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb both homered with their second homers. David Peralta also homered. This is fabulous, but tonight my Diamondbacks play my Indians and I like them both. Too bad they can't all end in ties. My Orioles are also back in action this weekend. My Cavs will win tonight. That will be great. Habs are winning the cup this year. It's their year. I think it will be a Habs Bruins eastern final again, but don't worry. Habs will win it in five or six and then they win the final and win the cup.

I believe we will make the playoffs and go further than the first round.
Yes - my head is in the clouds, if not up my ass.

Typically I cycle to work but with our crappy weather lately I've taken a relatively short streetcar ride through the downtown core from Parliament to Peter.

Conclusion: taking the ttc really really sucks.

Every single time, the first streetcar that came was impossible to board, and in a few cases, the second as well. Every single time, there are ignorant people with bags and backpacks causing mayhem. And every single time I think about taking the ttc from now on, I'll take a cab instead.

Bah humbug.

Leafs have a piss poor effort

My local tier 2 junior A team sucked the hind tit last night and were swept form the playoffs 4 straight.

On the bright side, I did have my name mentioned on the platonic ideal of podcasts yesterday and I am still gorgeous.

Also, my 17 year old daughter left yesterday with her school to various European countries to celebrate Vimy100. Very proud of the hard work she put in this past year in order to go.

Have a good weekend all

Well it did not take long for the US to flex its world policeman muscles.

While I didn't initially approve... its not a bad move.

The strike was limited, strictly to an air base, an airbase that launched a chemical weapons attack on its own people.

Trump said he wouldn't tolerate such criminal activity and he didn't. A man of his word.

The USA is back but they are not invested in the region now anymore than they were yesterday morning.

Assad and all similar minded will think twice before using Chemical weapons... the world is a bit safer today and the world knows its because of the USA.

They are no longer a nation of quivering equivocating pajamaboys piddling in the sand, laughed at by the world.

This season's version of the Maple Leaf have over delivered.
Overall, it's been a season of many achievements and milestones with just a few disappointments. Playoffs or not, they've exceeded the expectations of many, myself included.

Although they were schooled by the Caps the other night, and taught another valuable lesson last night by the Lightning, I remain cautiously optimistic about the club's future.

I'm really looking forward to how they respond against Pittsburgh on Saturday, but I think the most telling game of this team will be how they perform against Columbus on Sunday, the last game of the regular season.

Trump wouldn't shut up when Obama was president, railing against US involvement and the need for congressional approval before launching any airstrikes. Less than 4 years later, he's flip-flopped and is doing everything he said he opposed. I hope nobody is surprised - it's par for the course when you elect a narcissistic pathological lier to the presidency.

Once again VOR is a partisan hack. Take a look at trumps past tweets and that ahole Hannity. Both gave Obama shit for any involvement in bombings while also calling him out for golfing. How many times has Trump been golfing now? Trump specifically wrote "DO NOT ATTACK SYRIA - IF YOU DO MANY VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN & FROM THAT FIGHT THE US GETS NOTHING". His whole tweet was in caps lock, I didn't do it for effect. One of these two deplorable human beings also indicated that Obama went after Syria to help his terrible approval ratings. How bad is trumps approval rating right now?

On another piece of hypocritical BS. Trump magically cares about Syrian children after the saran gas attack? The same guy that stated he was willing to look Syrian refugee children in the face and tell them they cannot come to America.

It's sad that in the US all it takes to improve a presidents standing is go bomb the hell out of another country to take things up a couple notches.

I can't say Blundell was great on FAN mornings, but Brady and Price are horrible....and I actually like Brady. Hugh is the only bright spot...when they let him speak.

April 7, 2017 @ 12:16 PM

Well Said Ben V.

Having said that that is first thing Trump has done since I heard about him in the 1980's that i don't actually find despicable.

The Gas attack a few days ago was beyond despicable by about a light year so an armed response from the US was appropriate as was the amount of response (IMHO of course. )

The motivation can certainly be called into question however and i'm quite certain that Ben is right and it was done for approval ratings.

Again, not a fan of Trump but, this more like when Reagan bitch slapped Qaddafi back in the 80s for his attack on the La Belle nightclub in Berlin killing an American Servicemen.
A surgical tactical strike that sent a strategic message but did not yield paradigm changing results. Qaddafi played nice after that. Compare to Obama idiotically going in and taking down the entire Qaddafi government and wreaking havoc across the region and globe in the terrorist and barbarian diaspora which ensued...

Brain,
Just about anyone would have been better than Blundell, except Brady.
For me, he's unlistenable.

Brady was fired, fired after two previously failed partnership machinations in two different time slots, yet he's now back in a 3rd partnership.

Doesn't make any sense - is Toronto that devoid of on-air talent that the PD has to rehire one of his cast-offs?

He's still the same pompous ass trying to over-talk his partner, and that's after constantly interrupting his partner. I gave the show a chance. But he still sounds like a 13 yr old girl, and he still relies on Detroitisms and faux contrarian arguments.

So Brady remains a talking head that I ignore.

Feel bad of Price & Burrill.

Reading all kinds of stories on GTA housing market, ... bubble bubble, I smell housing trouble.

More so now that the Federal Minister of Finance wants to meet and talk with Ont Prov Min of Finance and Mayor Tory about Toronto's "real estate bubble".

To me, this meeting isn't going to be good - nothing but dumb, dumber and dumbest, pretending to be the three wise men.

Here's the obvious question, if the Bank of Canada raises interest rates by just 1% could that be the catalyst for the bubble to burst.

My guess would be that a 1% raise would see an endless run of mortgage defaults, resulting in foreclosures and power of sales. I base this on my work interactions with homeowners. From what I can tell, lots of new homeowners are house poor, living well beyond their means, living paycheck to paycheck. Same to be said for the speculators investing in rentals.

Clearly I don't think the real estate bubble is a myth. Rising housing costs in various markets collectively have the potential to do great harm to local, provincial, and federal economies. Changes in legislation for mortgages, artificially low interest rates, poorly thought out rent control policies, extensive bureaucracy in relation to building new affordable homes, inadequate
infrastructure, are all traits of political incompetence.

Politicians have already contributed sufficiently to the ongoing problems of housing markets - so they really need to stay out of an already complex marketplace. No need for any level of gov't to accelerate a collapse that collective & successive gov'ts have helped to create through poor policies that essentially benefited their financers.

Politicians, at any level, from any party, are not problem solvers.

Market conditions, economies, etc., are like ocean liners, "can't turn them on a dime",
Changing direction requires time & specifics - politicians (federal, provincial, municipal) have neither.

Let the bubbles burst, let them collapse under their own weight.

Then pick up the pieces, learn from the mistakes, start over,...

The first full weekend of the 2017 MLB regular season has arrived. We won’t see another weekend without baseball until November, and that is pretty darn awesome.

Well, my Habs lost. That sucked. My Cavs also lost which also sucks. It was not a very good night. Well, my Suns did win though. That's great. My Orioles also had a comeback win with homers by Manny Machado and Seth Smith. My Indians lost though, but they lost to my Diamondbacks. Francisco Lindor hit his third homer though. Boy he's hot. As for the TTC, it does suck. When I had an appointment on Monday, the subway was stuck between Davisville and Eglinton for no reason at all. I'm glad I don't have to take the TTC every day. Cabs are expensive. Uber is cheaper than cabs, but you need a cellphone to contact Uber and how would I know exactly where the car is? I wouldn't. The TTC is free for me anyway. I sure wouldn't want to pay for that shitty service.

@Cheryl

Your Habs lost to Tampa Bay, which means Tampa can leap over the Leafs for the final playoff spot if Tampa wins their last game and the Leafs lose both of their games. That should make you happy.

How many baseball teams do you support, by the way?

April 8, 2017 @ 1:22 PM

Cheryl

the Leafs did win. My Habs won as well though. The Leafs will be there, but don't worry. The Habs will beat them because Carey Price will be in full form. I like Indians, Orioles and Diamondbacks. My Orioles won last night. That's great. They are in first place by thsemlves where they belong. My Indians got clobbered. that sucks, but my Diamondbacks clobbered them. David peralta hit his second homer. Well, my Cavs better win today. I'm worried about them though. My Nets did win whichi is good, but they don't make the playoffs.

The NHL pulled out cuz they or someone knows or fears that by that time next year there is going to be some serious shit going on in Korea.

Trump aint got a clue what he is doing. He is shaking the hornets nest with no sight of the repercussions of his actions. Blame Ivanka & President Kushner, his new foreign policy team.

Y would Assaad gas those people? Trump was quick on the trigger without any forensic evidence. He wasn't elected to be another puppet. A politician will always be a politician.

Most of the team can't grow beards. Kadri after 2 days will have more facial hair than most after 2 weeks.

If we can't spur other parts of the economy with 1 and 2 % interest rates, it's time to get back to more realistic levels of 5-10 %. I endured 15-17% rates in the 80's , which kept a lid on pricing, and listers were negotiable.

April 9, 2017 @ 8:18 PM

Cheryl

Well, my Habs play the Rangers in the first round. Here's how the first round of playoffs will go. Habs over Rangers in four, maybe five. Senators always choke in the playoffs so Bruins over Senators, probably five in that series. Caps over Leafs in a sweep. Bluejackets over Pens in probably four or five. I'll predict the rest later, but we all know that the Habs are winning the cup. Well, I think in the east final it will be Habs over Bruins and I'm going to say in four or five and then Habs beat Hawks in five or six to win the cup. I don't want to talk about basketball, but my Suns did win, but they won't be in the playoffs. My Cavs had a big lead, but they blew it in the fourth quarter. How in the hell can you blow a big lead in the fourth quarter. I don't know what's wrong with my Cavs, but come on, it's the playoffs. Baseball not good. My Orioles lost. That sucked. My Indians lost, but they did lose to my Diamondbacks. I like them both, but I wanted a closer series. I don't know what's wrong with Corey Kluber, but he sure didn't pitch well.

@Rick my daily drive is a Kia Rondo and OMFG is it under powered. I have to be VERY careful on the Bandit .

It goes from highway speed to WTF?? in a second (made worse by having a stock and very quiet exhaust) and in fact could if i was to wind it out (which i would of course NEVER DO!!) hit 150 km/h in third gear.

I think.

I of course have never tried that out .

Nor would I.

April 10, 2017 @ 8:40 AM

I've had time to think about the US air strike on Syria.

The kind of right thing for the wrong reasons is how I think of it at this point.

And definitely a waste of time and resources.

Obviously Friday I bought into the trump regimes blather and misdirection.

The reality is that spending millions of dollars to Punish the Syrian government for gassing the very people that Trump says are too dangerous to allow into the US is not just hypocrisy it's idiocy. And I feel like an idiot for buying in.

I Do think that military action of that sort can play a part in keeping some of the worst of the worlds idiot leaders from carrying out atrocities like the Gas attack but considering how the trump administration has gone so far this was a mistake.

April 10, 2017 @ 9:07 AM

Other Voice of Reason

There were no chemical weapons according to the previous administration, therefore there was no need for an air strike. Maury Povich deducts that was a lie, and that was a gamechanger for Trump and this administration. Of course, most of you don't care to understand the bigger picture and will point the finger at the current US President. Congratulations...you have been hoodwinked again.

April 10, 2017 @ 6:30 PM

Cheryl

Do I have to talk about basketball? They should shorten the games, make them three quarters long. If they did that, then my Cavs would be winning. Now they are in second fricken place. It sucks. It was the fourth quarter just like Sunday. Let's get rid of the rfourth quarter. I mean how can you play a totally different game in the fourth quarter. It's awful. It really is. All I can say is they better win tomorrow. Not a lot of baseball yesterday. My Diamondbacks lost again. Okay, so they go and beat my Indians and then they go and lose. That's not good. Well, I like both teams, but wanted my Indians to make it a closer series. Well, looks like today it's Indians home opener, then Orioles follow and then Diamondbacks. Tomorrow I have my Habs so that's good and then Cavs final game of the season. Habs are really winning the cup. I gave you who is going to win. Caps, Jackets, Bruins and Habs will all win, I know that.

Not aware of motorbike shoes/pedals with clips like that...

@mrmojorisinca,

I'd just start with the "spd" standard. It's ubiquitous.

You can get hybrid ones if you like, with a flat side for regular shoes as well, but most riders seem to find them to be a pain in the butt. I had no trouble clipping with them myself, but in practice I virtually never rode my regular commute with street shoes.

Hybrid might be a good option though if you're using the bike to run errands. Most bike shoes leave the clip exposed so it's kind of annoying to walk around in, *click click click* + less grip on hard surfaces.

April 11, 2017 @ 1:09 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

I've got the hybrid pedals now but I've yet to buy the shoes, so I just use the regular side with my sneakers. :)

Well, my Indians won. That was great. They won with a walkoff RBI double by Michael Brantley. Also Franky Lindor homered again. He hit his fourth. That's great. Winning the home opener is wonderful, but my Indians aren't in first place. Do I have to talk about my Orioles. Dylan Bundy pitched well, but the pen didn't and they got clobbered. They better win tonight. My Diamondbacks won as well last night so that was great. Anyway, my Suns did lose their last game. That was no good. Tonight I have baseball, hockey and basketball. My Cavs better get their act together and win the last game, but they are resting LeBron again which is no good. Oh well, Habs will win their first playoff game. I gave you who is going to win in the first round. Nobody else will win the cup except the Habs.

I have no way of finding out how the Canadians & the Cavaliers did last night.

It was an ugly night. My Habs lost. They didn't score any goals. This was awful, awful, awful. My Cavs lost as well. That was such an ugly game. It was no good. I'm worried. My Habs better win the next game and my Cavs better be winning in the playoffs. I also want the Bucks to win in the playoffs as well so if my Cavs can't win, then hopefully Bucks can win. Orioles won last night. That was good. Lots of homers by Adam Jones, Trey Mancini, and Chris Davis. My boy, Mark Trumbo didn't hit one though. My Indians lost again. That's no good. I need them to win so they can be in first place as well. My Diamondbacks lost again as well. This is no good. Anyway, so for tonight go Caps.

April 13, 2017 @ 7:16 AM

Cheryl

No Open Mike this week. Guess I'll keep adding to this one. My Orioles won. That was a great game, very well pitched, but the better team won which is my Orioles. My Indians didn't do very well though. That's no good. They got clobbered, even though Michael Brantley hit a home run. They better win tonight because they are slipping. My Diamondbacks didn't play. Good thing the Caps won. It will be Caps in four. Habs will win their next game. Cavs will get back to their form and win. Bucks are also going to win tomorrow as well.
