Minecraft: My Kid Loves It

Minecraft: My Kids Love ItMy son is 10-years old and obsessed with Minecraft. The same is true with his friends. Minecraft is their video game of choice.

I've seen him play it, but I don't really get Minecraft. He's home sick, so I just chatted him up about it.

Daddy: What do you like about Minecraft?

James: I like to build things and kill people. I like to play multi-player to chat with people.

Daddy: It's not nice to kill people.

James: It's different. It's not real life.

James: I'd play every day if I could.

Daddy: The graphics kind of suck though...

James: It's supposed to be like that. Everything is supposed to be in block form.

So there you have it. Minecraft: blocky but good.

It's kinda like Lego with stakes. I've been playing for a couple months too, and it's pretty fun. :)

My kids play something called Roblox. It looks kind of like the same thing.
Maybe I'll have to introduce them to Minecraft.

My kids and hubby play Minecraft, although my teenage daughter finds the Creepers very, well, creepy.

Games don't have to have be visually awesome to be great fun.

I must admit, the men in my life would like to stay home and play games all day too. Good call James!

My 14 year old son loves Minecraft. His favourite part of the game is the creativity. You need to think about what you need to do, then build it. That is why he still likes Little Big Planet (and LBP2) so much, too. He likes Minecraft more than most other games "because you have to do more than just move around and destroy stuff and people." Ajax Mike's Lego parallel is a good one. I give credit to the designers for the build/creativity part of the game. Most of today's games are all destroy-no build. I'm thinking of getting my son LBP Karting for Christmas - think of it as a cross between LBP and Mario Kart.
