Being nervous is a cop-out.

She's a RADIO JOCK. She's used to talking in front of 1000's of people EVERY DAY.

I can understand an American messing it up, but a Canadian? Born and bread and sang it all her life? Come on. Something to be said for rehearsing. Suck it up, find your confidence and nail it.

terrible DJ, I see her other talents aren't far behind. Still don't understand why edge hired her, she belongs back on virgin radio and cosmo tv and away from rock stations. She treats her show like an episode of the view.

Its likely that Josie was hired to be the token "chick" for the Edge. Hire a female thats reasonable attractive and seems approachably to the average male listener on 102.1. She represents a female thats "doable"and, sans model looks, approachable for the average guy.

After all 102.1 is a sausagefest. Excluding a few cuts most of the music it plays is the modern day equivalent of Van Halen. Grab a 6 pack of Kokanee and lets get wasted dude. Mook rock or whatever the term is. Josie is just the visual. Im sure if they could find a sassy Asian they'd send Josie packing.

102.1 should hire Rhiannon from CJAY 92. Google her. She's perfect for sausagefest radio. And shes got a brain

FYI. My post above isn 't meant as a diss at Josie. More that 102.1 isn 't really the place for a female who doesnt wanna be "one of the boys". Women like Dani Elwell and Kim Hughes disappeared from 102.1 a long time ago. And those type of women arent coming back again

Irvine, the Edge is trying harder than ever to bring in the female demographic, because they are doing miserably in that bracket. There are more women DJ's than guys! Josie, Melani, Candice, Liz, Lana, Sara, Amanda are all on-air. The last time a guy was hired for on-air duty was in 2009!! The PD and MD are HUGE pervs who will give endless chances, even to screw-ups like Josie, if they have the right two attributes.

If the Edge wanted a female audience so bad then why all the jock behaviour? Why all the sausagefest references? Secondly NONE of those female announcers have full time shifts.

102.1s demo is males not females. If they wanted females they would need a more AAA approach like 100.5 The Peak in Vancouver.

That said 102.1 seems confused of late. Their playlist has moved left of centre but their morning show is more what you would expect on 97,7 HTZ. Gotye and Yukon Blonde really don't fit with cheap Howard Stern clones. Edge is more left of centre musically than they have been in ages or so goes the playlist

If alt rock radio wants females and wants to survive it needs to embrace girls. Thats what they did years ago when they played Tori Amos and Sarah Mclaughlin

Irvine-- Well of course they're going to want to hold onto their main demo. The shock jocks are there to ensure that. They're trying to appeal to females in addition to their core fanbase. I think you've answered your own question as well- the playlist has mellowed considerably recently. Edge, for all its faults, is far from the macho-man active rock station it could be. They even played Adele last year! Trust me, they are trying to get the ladies as well.

Finally, you'd be surprised at how many girls adore the morning show's antics. It's later in the day that the female demo tapers off. Just saying, I wouldn't be surprised if within the next year one or two of those DJ's I listed gets a full-time gig.

I believe the higher ups told "Blundell" they needed to attract more female listeners at one point. They did a whole campaign to highlight their female listeners in hopes to attract more.

They defitnatly want to appeal to as much of the pie as they can without losing anything from their core demographic.

they should be more concerned with playing good music, since it's been 15-20 years since the edge could be considered the "edge" or anything except a preview or what coldplay song was going to be number one on CHUM

Look dude you cant attract many women by being macho jock talk douchebags on the air. If that was the case Roger Ashby would be commenting on Marilyn Dennis' rack on CHUM FM.

102.1s jocks are VERY active rock sans Bookie. Their playlist is increasing not active rock male centric. If thats the plan of 102.1 to soften their sound its going to mark the end of Blundell and crew. Its entirely feasible to have an alpha male on the morning show but that would require a co host thats strongly "pro female". Todd is not that. Edge would require a morning show along the lines of what Big D and Elvira did on Z103 in the 90s. Or maybe hire Blake Carter from CHUM FM and pair her up with someone thats male.

FYI. Last PPM 102.1s female audience was way down. Thats public record dude. You can play all the Adele records you want but the minute you turn on the mic and start talking about 3somes with lesbians many ofthose females turn the station

If they're trying to appeal to women with the moronic stylings of Josie Dye, well on behalf of my demographic "no thanks". Josie is an airhead who holds no appeal. I don't know anyone who enjoys her aside from men who will excuse her idiocy because "she's hot." Raina was cool. Melani's all right. Josie belongs on Cosmo TV.

Also, as a female, I don't mind my comedy raunchy. (neither do many, many of my female friends.) I just like it to be funny, as opposed to a circle jerk.

You know what 102.1 should do?
Try to play the same 10, fruity a** songs all day everday even more. Whoever the MUSIC DIRECTOR is at 102.1/Corus needs to be slapped across the face. The commercials they play still advertise 102.1 as NEW ROCK ALTERNATIVE. The garbage they play now IS NOT rock. Its more like pop music for tween girls and guys who wear skinny jeans.
97.7 107.9 107.1 & even 97.3 are better than 102.1. Hell i find myself switching from 102.1s garbage over to 97.3 to listen to artists like Pete Gabriel.
