Mike Richards Coming to Toronto Radio

radioThere's a lot of Toronto sports media movement this week. I've just heard Mike Richards is leaving Calgary for a spot on TSN Radio. Wait... there's a TSN Radio now? How long was I sick?

Here's a nice email about it that I just received from Adam.

As a follow-up to your post from June (http://www.torontomike.com/2010/06/is_the_mike_richards_show_comi.html) Mike Richards resigned today from CFAC-AM (Sportsnet Radio, Fan 960 – Calgary) and per The Globe is coming to Toronto to host the morning drive for CHUM-AM (TSN Radio, 1050 Toronto).

First reported at http://torontosportsmedia.com/sports-and-toronto/mike-richards-headed-toronto-sports/10065.

Then confirmed at http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/bruce-dowbiggin/tsn-radio-a-reality/article1878887.

And then finally officially confirmed at http://rogersradiointernet.com/hq/newsletters/cache/4336.html.

P.S. Love the blog man, long time reader, first time writer…

That CP24 simulcast on 1050 was a complete bust. I'm glad to see it dead.

Funny how Dowbiggin in the Globe says TSN Radio will broadcast on "the 1050 band in Toronto".

I think he means "frequency", no?

Take a time-out!!!!!!!!!!!
Before you have another Cox blunder........
The main source you have is Bruce Dowbiggin........
He does not name sources...
and what he says is pure speculation...
The ONLY REAL source is Mike Richards !!!!!

If this is true Richards will eat up Krystal on 590 or Sportsnet the Fan 590.

I haven't heard Richards recently but back in the 90s when he was on the Fan with Derringer, he was awesome - funny as hell!

His Bob Cole imitation was hilarious.

Mike...1050AM was a placeholder for what is happening now. It was never supposed to me a simulcast for CP24. They were holding it till they got everything in order.

^, at least that it was many figured. They wanted to do something eventually with the frequency and airing music on it was just costing them money compared to CP24 Radio which was all free content.

Also, The Star got in on the act today with an article... http://www.thestar.com/sports/article/926333--ground-shifting-as-broadcasters-brace-for-sports-war

its bad enough that we have to listen to the douche bags at ESPN radio, now we got to hear TSN radio. Let me guess, its going to be all about hockey.

Used to pick up FoxSports Radio on am570 Kitchener with Mike North & JT the Brick, but now even they have turned to ESPN radio.

That is why corporate monopolies on TV, newspaper, & radio are BAD.

No editorial boards should ever tell a person how to think or what to say.

That little faggot from NFLD? Thats just the beginning of controlled censorship if that makes any sense.

To add something that may or may not be of much note, I just saw on the Jobs page of www.milkmanunlimited.com the position of morning announcer for Sportsnet Radio the Fan 960.
