Live Blogging Brandon Morrow's No-Hit Bid

Published by Toronto Mike on August 8, 2010 @ 15:23 in Toronto Blue Jays

bluejaysBlue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow has 16 strikeouts through 8 innings, but more importantly, he's got a no-hitter and a 1-0 lead.

The Rays are coming up in the top of the ninth and I'm going to live blog this inning. Remember, there is currently only one no-hitter in Blue Jays history.

3:25 - I'm nervous. I'd love Morrow to get this, he's pitched a helluva game. Jason Bartlett is at the plate.

3:27 - Barlett has flown out to Wise. 2 outs to go. You can read all about the first no-hitter in Jays history right here.

3:29 - Ben Zobrist has a 3-0 count. Make that 4-0, he's on first. A double play right now would be sweet. C'mon Morrow!

3:30 - Carl Crawford at the plate... 0-1 count. Maybe that 0-2. Fans at the diamond formerly known as SkyDome on their feet. Crawford just hit a foul into the seats. And Snider makes the catch for the second out!

3:32 - Evan Longoria is at the plate, and Morrow needs one more out for the no-no. What a weekend for this team! He's 1-1... I missed Stieb's no-hitter because I was working the CNE that day. Longoria.... FUCK. He's got a base hit. You can blame this one on me, folks. That was close!

3:35 - In addition to his 1990 no-hitter, both of Stieb's last two starts in 1988 were one-hitters, with the lone single coming with 2 outs and 2 strikes in the 9th inning in each game. Tomorrow, Morrow will be perfect.

3:38 - And that's the ball game! A 1-0 victory and a 1-hitter for Morrow with 17th strikeouts. What a game, what a weekend...

bring on the Red Sox, Cito has this team playing some of the best baseball weve seen in years, win or lose they are fun to watch but winning lately makes it even nicer,

A great weekend overall. WE all can blame you on this one as you mentioned NO NO before end of the game. NEVER, even the commentators mentioned it.

Amazing weekend! After a really dreary start to this season, I haven't been this pumped about the Jays in a LONG time.

They've got a great young core!

I can't think of a time since the last World Series in 93 that I've wanted to be at a game live more than yesterday and today. What a weekend for the Jays, and really, what a week it's been. Taking 2 out of 3 from New York and then sweeping the Rays...it's really quite something.

I was at the game on Saturday with a baseball genius who was able to explain all the subtleties and mind games that I, as someone who didn't grow up here, missed.

Baseball is pretty cool, butthe whole experience is shockingly overpriced.

Anyone there for the whole game is in the ground for over 3 (and up to 4 hours). As you are not allowed any outside food and drink, this means being forced to pay $4.25 for water, $10 for a burger, $10 for a can of beer etc... unless you can go 4 hours durring a hot afternoon without drinking anything.

Its cynical, having a captive (literally - no in/out privilages) audience, and charging outragous prices for all the extra's.

Like I said, the baseball was pretty cool but the Skydome is a money trap.

I'd beinterested in other people's opinion about this.

No hitting the Rays is a nice feat, they are a tough team to do that too..

That would've been the 3rd time the Rays would have been no hit this season.

Was at the game -- first time I've been there since the glory years that it appeared people gave a crap. There was an actually atmosphere at the dome. Who would've thunk? They really need to do something about concession prices. I understand that I'm going pay more but I feel like I should bend over with the prices as is. $4.50 for a bottle of water? $6.50 for popcorn?

Brandon Morrow threw what is (according to the Bill James game score) statistically the 4th best pitched game of all time and you`re complaining about concession prices?

I understand your frustration but... seriously.

Yup I am. One of the underlying stories of the Blue Jays season has been the lack of fan support and the price of food there is ridiculous and reason why many people have said they don't go. Because of concession prices I refuse to pay to see the Jays (tickets were given to me).

Although someone told me you are allowed to bring in you're own food. That may change things.

Well, really the lack of fan support was really just a story in April and May and it was ridiculously overblown.

Right now they`re 27th out of 30 in the league averaging about 20K a game. That`s bad, but not particularly notable.

Attendance has dropped because they haven`t contended for the playoffs in 17 years, not concession prices. If the team wins, the fans will come back.

Although having said that - I agree that they are terribly overpriced, so I do understand where youre coming from.
