District 9 Review

Movie ReviewDistrict 9: 8.5 out of 10.

This one had me from the get go and didn't let up. I wasn't bored for one of the 112 minutes. I loved the style, enjoyed the ride and was blown away by this Sharlto Copley chap I had never heard of before.

I don't have anything bad to say about District 9. I'd love to watch a sequel to see what happens three years after. If you haven't seen this flick yet, you have your marching orders.

With nothing bad to say.. why only an 8.5?

This film blew my fucking mind. Mrs. P bailed about a half hour in, because she "hates alien movies".
It was so much more than that. Political messages galore. Brilliantly written and a compelling story. Just awesome.

I probably could have given this movie a 9... not sure why I dumbed it down to 8.5. It's fantastic.

Ebert need not worry I'm gunning for his job.

Agreed. Loved it. However I'm guessing it would'nt have made the AA Best Film nomination if not for the bump up to 10 pics this year.

At the risk of sounding ignorant, I did wonder what made them choose Johannesburg, South Africa as the setting of an alien film. So I have some South African friends and asked their opinion. They filled me in and it very much made sense.

Hobo...

It also helps that the Co-Writer and Director is from Johannesburg.

I completely agree with you. I loved this movie. They did set up a sequel near the end by indicating that the Prawns were moved to 'District 10'.

This is a fantastic film and if you loved Copley, you can watch him as Howling Mad Murdock in the new A-Team movie.
