We Suck

CN TowerIt seems like we were just talking about the Raptors gunning for fourth in the conference and a home court advantage for their first round in the playoffs. For those who don't follow the Raps, we finished ninth in the conference and that means we missed the playoffs for the second season in a row.

At least the Raptors played a playoff game three seasons ago. Our Leafs haven't played a playoff game since 2004. That's five seasons ago and six years. My daughter's about to turn six and she's not been alive for a single Leafs playoff game.

Of course, if we're talking playoff droughts in this city, the Blue Jays are the top dogs. The last Blue Jays playoff game ended with Joe Carter touching them all, and that was back in 1993. What's that, 17 seasons ago? Do we count the year they cancelled the World Series? Is it really 18 seasons ago?

At least it's tough to make the playoffs in baseball. Our Argonauts play in an 8 team league in which 6 teams make the playoffs, and they haven't qualified since 2007. It's not looking good for next season, either.

I could drag Toronto FC into this mess, but they're only in their fourth season. We'll excuse their three years of missing the playoffs. And the Marlies missed the playoffs, but they were there last year, if we're desperate for a silver lining.

Who am I kidding... there's no silver lining. The three teams with the largest fan-base, the Leafs, Raptors and Blue Jays, have collectively been absent from the playoffs since the Raps lost to Orlando in the first round back in the spring of good 'ol 2008.

We suck.

Its really sad, this has to be one of the darkest times in Toronto sports history. Its shocking how quickly the Raptors fell from grace.

Add to the Raptors missing the playoffs that the Jays had the lowest attendance on record at 10,500 fans tonight... sad sad day in Toronto sports land.

Well, look at it this way. We WOULD have made the playoffs if Turkoglu and Bosh hadn't gotten their faces smashed in at about the same time.

...

...we have a really klutzy team. ;.;

All we can hope that one day a few years from now we'll look back on the 06 - 10ish era and laugh at how brutal it was.

Out of all the Toronto sports teams you listed the Blue Jays are the only ones who look remotely on track to become something. They are stacked with young talent and have an ownership looking to spend money when the time is right (unlike Burke who is spending money for the sake of it).

I just can't believe the Raptors. What a colossal collapse.

Hey, don't forget about the Toronto Rock. I don't really follow them too closely myself, but they hadn't been too bad up to recently, and have won a few championships in there.

I often forget about the Toronto Rock because I've honestly never heard anyone say "It's 7:30, turn to the lacrosse game".

Even the Rock has missed the playoffs the past two years. They haven't played a playoff game since 2007.

The NHL was formed in 1917. It has existed for 93 years...we last won a cup in 1967 .. 43 years ago. So, when you look at the drought going on in this town with hockey, and compare it to the age of the league, our last cup is moving close to being in the 1st half of the league's existence. As bands on old Stanley get retired, we are moving closer to not having the leafs on the cup at all. The next band being retired is in 2016, and we will still be on it (montreal 64-65 is the last winner on that band), but by the way this has played out, how can one be optimistic !!

I don't care for the Argos and I just love the Make BeLeafs...just the way they are! - as for the Blue Jays and the Raptors, I would cheer for them if they actually did anything. Looks good on the Center of the Universe! Laffs SUCK!!!!
