Low Emission and Fuel Efficient Vehicles Only

carI spotted this sign at Mississauga's Square One mall. It's a parking spot reserved for "Low Emission and Fuel Efficient Vehicles Only".

I just wonder how they enforce it. Do they have a list of car makes and models that fit the bill? Does my '99 Mazda Protégé qualify?

Wouldn't it be greener to allow the high emission and fuel non-efficient cars the better spaces?

The Smart Car can drive around the parking lot and cause less of a foot print than the Hummer.

And as you said Mike, how can they honestly enforce this? I imagine that they can't (just like the expectant mother's parking spaces).

We have the same parking spots down here at the Venetian, and the brand new CityCenter. I once asked a security guard about it, and I was told they can't actually enforce it, it's more like a suggestion.

We have those in my apartment complex's parking garage.

It's one of the things that scores you points on the LEED criteria for how green a building is.

People park their SUVs and their V8 sportscars there. It's stupid.

Ikea installed those spots a few years back. They're painted green. Surprisingly, there weren't any hummers parked in it out of spite. Then again, I don't know how many spiteful people shop at Ikea...
