Ho-Lee-Chow! Toronto Chinese Food Franchise Closes

Published by Toronto Mike on October 7, 2009 @ 20:00 in Toronto News ~ Toronto Focus

foodHo-Lee-Chow has locked their doors, taken their website offline and left this message on their answering machine.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, one of which is the poor economic climate, another of which is a refusal to compromise on the quality and service you have come to appreciate, Ho-Lee-Chow has closed down operation.

If you've craved cheap Chinese food with no MSG the past two decades, you likely know Ho-Lee-Chow. I must confess, I never once ate food from Ho-Lee-Chow, and now it seems I never will.

Ho Lee (fill in the blank).
They really did make CHOW that was pretty good. Not the best delivery out there, but OK. At lease you knew what you were getting. Sorry to see them go, because they took the mystery out of ordering Chinese food. However, Empire Wok does just fine - at least in our neighborhood.

Completely over-rated. The servings kept getting smaller and smaller. Sub-par at best.

It was badly run. It had nothing to do with the economic climate.

Gary's onto something. Too many places are blaming the Current Economic Climate or whatever the current buzzword is for their failures as companies.

I love how CTVGlobemedia blames the Economy for their reason to close two stations...when they should look at their acquisitions. Do they really need to own THREE cellphone networks? Do they really need to own the Source electronic stores? No. They're greedy.

You missed a great KISS show in Oshawa last night. That's what you missed.

Ha! I just received a flyer for them at my house. Ironic timing...

Very over-rated. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did.

Only ordered once. Slow delivery. Mediocre taste.

Personally good riddance. Ho-Lee Crap lacked flavour.. you need the MSG! And way way way too overpriced by all means.

Not too bad in a pinch. The one in Burlington closed down a couple of years ago. Mandarin is still the best by far.

Sure, instead of responding to concerns, just repeat the same message. That always works.
