Cito and Letterman

Published by Toronto Mike on October 2, 2009 @ 14:38 in News

newspaperA couple of items caught my eye this morning as I caught up on the news. They involved a couple of people I admire: David Letterman and Cito Gaston.

Letterman admitted to a series of affairs with female staff as he explained he was being blackmailed for $2 million.

Here he is confessing his sins to his Late Show audience.

In local news, it's come to light that several members of our Toronto Blue Jays want manager Cito Gaston fired. Speaking off the record, Gaston's style was deemed too "old school" and negative by "nine or ten" players.

I've always liked Cito, but it looks like his days on the bench have come to an end. I heard Mike Wilner on The Fan 590 say it was unanimous. The players want Cito to go, and it's easier to replace one manager than 20 players.

Now you're up to date.

have to say that i'm a bit disapointed in letterman...if you want to play the field that's cool but why get married...now everyone is embarrased? As for Cito...they started off strong and if wasn't for some key injuries they could have done better. there would be no mutiny talk. Are we sure it is unanimous or just a few players with loud mouths who "say" the speak for the players?

MAybe its the players who are opening their big mouths that need to go. Cito is a class act all the way, maybe these players we have in Toronto don't want to do what it takes to win. Thats what Cito brings and if they don't want to listen to what a winning manager brings to the clubhouse maybe the players should go.
Ill be honest If I have to watch Vernon Wells hit .250 for another season Im going to vomit.
Lyle Overbay needs to step it up or ship out, Ill bet those two are at the front of the line and their frustration with cito isn't so much that they are unhappy with him but that theyare frustrated with their lack of production.

The Letterman video has already been pulled from YouTube.

It would be sad to see Cito go, but if there are as many guys on the team calling for him to go as it sounds like then maybe he is part of the problem. If a couple guys complain that's one thing, but if it's most of your team then it's likely not them who need an attitude adjustment.

Steve, problem is the team as a whole since june has under achieved. Vernon Wells hasn't been worth half of his contract and Overbay is a shadow of his former self. Alex Rios was a joke this year. I would love to see a sports team clean up the players first then hold the manager accountable. How do you explain the last ten games then? they are 9-1 over that span are we sure this isn't just a rumour anyway?

I like Letterman a lot. If all he did was have a couple of affairs, then I really don't see what the big deal is. I mean, of course that's scummy, but who are we to judge? I read an article saying that this could be the end of Letterman on TV. Really? For having affairs? Unless it's something really disturbing, then who cares? That's between him and his family.

As for Cito, I like the guy too, but I think that this season was so spectacularly bad, that they need to absolutely clean house. Fire Cito, fire JP and get a new president. I would like a clean slate and a fresh start with the team.

Perhaps Dave & Cito can swap Jobs.

Letterman is fine; he never was the “Family Values” type. Yes, he probably cheated on his girlfriend now wife. But at least he does go around claiming he is Mr. “Family Values” like some of our politicians (can you just see the grin on all “Fake News” reporters/commentators). This has been a tough summer, for Dave, for our economy but at least he did not end up on the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Stanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC).

It seems that Paul is running around the internet posting the same comment on different blogs.

I bet that's what Letterman's ladies said.
