Leafs Make the Kessel Run in Less Than Twelve Parsecs

LeafsTSN is calling it a done deal, and that's good enough for me. Brian Burke has completed a trade with the Boston Bruins and Phil Kessel is finally a Toronto Maple Leaf.

According to the tweet I just received from Darren Dreger, we gave up a 1st and 2nd round draft pick in 2010 and another 1st round pick in 2011. That's a mighty high price to pay, but Kessel is only 21-years old and coming off a career high 36 goals in 70 games with Boston.

Phil "The Thrill" Kessel is a nice addition to this team. He'll play his first game for the blue and white this November as he's on the shelf following rotator cuff surgery.

Oh yeah, and he once made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. That's pretty sweet.

Did he once play for the Cantina team in Mos Eisley?

They gave up way too much. Would anyone have traded Schenn and Kadri and a second round pick for Kessel? I don't think so, but in essence that is what they did. The Leafs last 2 number one picks were Schenn and Kadri. Way too much for Kessel.

Im honestly surprised that a trade this big happened in the same division...If this had been a deal for say Patrick Kane or Johnathan Toews it wouldnt have surprised me, but this does.

This is the proverbial bird in the hand that beats the two in a bush.

Hey Gary. Would you trade Alex Steen and jiri Tlusty for Kessel? Also 2 leaf first round picks.

Fredericton Steve makes a good point.

The Schenn's are few and far between for this franchise. The next couple of drafts are supposedly weak, and we'll likely be in that 8-10 slot in the conference, so are the picks likely to be that good?

Besides, when was the last time we had a forward with the upside of Kessel wearing blue and white at 22 years of age? I believe he wore #17.

With the moves Burke has made, along with the rest of your division not improving as much, these picks will be middle to the lower end of the first round, great move.
Canucks v Leafs in the finals.
