The show has moved to high definition widescreen broadcasting which made this change necessary. Here's the new opening.

And dudes.. relax.. the animation changed over the years.. personally I donlt have a problem with a new HD beginning. Toronto Mike As a life-long devout follower of this wonderful series, part of me thinks it's time for a mercy killing anyway. But that's another entry... jason | getyouroj.com The mercy killing stages are cyclical. Sometimes it has a crappy run of things, only to come back stronger. Let them make new episodes, I suspect it will ALWAYS be on TV either way. maybe they should bring Conan back on board.

Tomorrow night's episode of The Simpsons will include the first full, permanent revamp of the show’s opening titles since its premiere in 1989.

If I'm not mistaken it's only for one episode.
