Covenant School 100, Dallas Academy 0

basketballI've always been careful not to run up the score and show up the opposition. During the 2007 slo-pitch season, I wrote about the night we beat up on a weaker opponent, and I wasn't proud. In hind-sight, we played a jerk game and should have eased off the accelerator earlier than we did.

We won that game 32-6, but by the fifth inning we were "stretching" triples into singles. Covenant, a private Christian school in Dallas, continued to implement a full-court press and put up three's, even while up by 80. They beat Dallas Academy 100-0, with spectators and an assistant coach cheering wildly as their team edged closer to 100 points.

But here's the kicker...

Dallas Academy has eight girls on its varsity team and about 20 girls in its high school. It is winless over the last four seasons. The academy boasts of its small class sizes and specializes in teaching students struggling with "learning differences," such as short attention spans or dyslexia.

I'd love to have a chat with the Covenant coach who instructed his players to go with a full-court press and ordered them to keep putting up the three-point shots when destroying a school of 20 girls. It makes me feel better about that 32-6 drubbing of the TPS Warriors.

Covenant has officially apologised and has requested to the league that the victory is taken away from them via forfit.

All that means is that someone had some sense the morning after.

Where was the sense during the slaughter?

100-0 over a small school for those with learning differences? They should forfeit the season!

I'll never forget a game 2 years ago when my son was in IP hockey...we played a much stronger team in a tournament "fun day" While my son's team of 5 and 6 year olds were having their a**es kicked the other team continued to double shift it's 2 "star" players and after the 12th goal (we didn't score at all) the parents were still going nuts with the cowbell and cheering...What are people thinking and what is it teaching the kids about humility and sportsmanship?

that game should have never taken place. What is this school doing in a league with teams of this caliber?

These are Christians? Clearly Jesus wasn't in their minds...or their hearts...

I just re-read this and I wanted to correct my typo - forfeit. Sorry.

Elvis, while you're correcting your typos, it's "apologized" here in Canada.

It's "apologised" in the UK.
