102.1 The Edge's Top 102 Songs of 2008

radioBelow are the top 102 songs of 2008, according to 102.1 The Edge.

I threw down my personal top 10 right here. My tunes ranked 72, 62, 25, 10, 19, 67, 40, 36, n/a and 22 respectively. That n/a is for "Inside the Cinema" by Culture Reject which, unfortunately, never got a sniff from CFNY. I'm not sure why as it's an awesome, addictive tune by a Torontonian, and would have been a great add.

such a sad, irrelevant station really.. it has absolutely no pulse left whatsoever..

happy new year by the way, all the best in '09

Unless I'm hunting for a traffic or news report, local radio is something I don't listen to since I listen to Sirus or my iPod.

thanks for posting it.
I love the edge, however I don't agree with some of these songs; but still it's a great list to close off the 08 collection.

Looks like they put a whack of '80s and '90s songs back in rotation. Sounds like a Toronto Mike research project waiting to happen.

The station's current program director is Ross Winters, who I've never spoken to. What I liked most about Alan Cross was how promptly he'd reply to my pestering. And, even though he had to wear the corporate hat, he was always pretty honest and blunt about the cruel facts of commercial radio.

A glance at the recently played songs list at http://edge.ca/BroadcastHistory.aspx rekes of the 90s. Are we sure this isn't yet another 90s weekend?

I'll keep my good eye on this and see if Winters will talk.

egerton, I just did a quick and dirty analysis, and if we exclude tracks played during the 90s Nooner, it looks a lot like the mix I saw in June.

That analysis is at http://www.torontomike.com/2008/06/a_closer_look_at_the_edge_102.html and shows 28.18% classic alternative vs. 24.54% new tunes.

Most definitely, we're hearing more 90s tunes than ever before.
