Maple Leafs 5, Oilers 2

LeafsHopefully Blake has had his wake up call. Leading 3-2, Jason Blake assisted on Ian White's goal for some much needed cushion. Throw in a goal and we've got a great effort from an underachieving winger who was a healthy scratch in Calgary

I heard on The Fan 590 this morning that we were above .500. I'd just like to remind everyone that the total in the third column is not ties but losses for which we were awarded a point. They're still losses, however, which means we've won 7 of 17 and last I checked that was not over .500.

Hi Mike, this used to bug me as well, so I've convinced myself that in the new NHL, playing .500 means you've received half of the possibly points you could have earned. It takes a while, but you get used to it.

It pisses me off that points are still being rewarded to losers. If they've decided to hold a shootout in order to have a winner every night (Which I agree with for the regular season) then you have to stop giving points for mediocrity. Bad teams are still playing for the tie and hoping to fluke out a shootout victory. GET RID OF POINTS ALTOGETHER and go to a winning percentage like Basball.

Better yet Al, if you win it in Overtime you get 3 points, loser gets squat.
That would make regulation a lot more exciting because no team would want to go to overtime and risk losing three points to someone in the standings.
That and make overtime sudden death for the regular season, enough with the shootout crap.

My fear is that teams would play for the tie just for the shot at 3 points.

Let's keep it simple. 2 points for a win, 0 points for a loss.
