Brian Burke New President and GM of Maple Leafs

Published November 25, 2008 @ 17:06 in Toronto Maple Leafs

leafsI didn't see this coming. Wow. Brian Burke has a five year deal on the table to become the new President and GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

According to Damien Cox, the only thing holding up the announcement is the reporting structure of the new regime, whether Burke will report directly to the MLSE board on a regular basis, or to a senior executive like current Leaf president Richard Peddie.

I don't know if this is the right direction, but it's direction, and we've been rudderless for so long I'm just relieved to know the end of our mediocrity is potentially in sight.

Everyone is just waiting for Burke to take this job.
If you read comments he was given players on the team when they won the cup.
Probably the best available now BUT he will not be the PROPHET. Scotty Bowman should have hired when he was available.

Even if Obama were President of the Leafs it wouldn't make a damn diff. No, they can't.

C'mon, if Obama were in charge, they'd hand us the Cup and cancel the playoffs.

Of course they would Mike, because we have affirmative action.

Affirmative action = may the best person of that colour get the job

Oh yeah, Argie is back and better than ever......

Leafs need to keep losing and make sure they finish last place for 5 years in a row. This will ensure a top first round pick that be used to trade for talent or to draft talent and develop, ie. pittsburg (Fleury, Malkin and Crosby). The draft picks can also be bundled to trade away current players for younger developed players. Stop trying to make the playoffs and get playoff revenues that interfere with the rebuilding plan, and do not resign Sundin, or sign Sundin and trade him for a quality player near the trade deadline. If Toronto signs Sundin and finishes 8th place, everything will be for nothing. Don't half ass rebuild and try to win, lose for 5years, earn quality players and win with a young future dynasty. The only player on the team that should get max money should be a hall of famer type player/phenom which Toronto has none at the moment. Burke will bring this to the table and will tell that board to stfu and be patient, their prized stocks will rebound in a few years. Go do your thing Burke, build the team like how you want to build it, and don't back down to that board or executive who oversees you.
