Linkin Park - Given Up

Published by Toronto Mike on August 11, 2008 @ 20:09 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour

slsI'm submitting a song for SLS20 consideration. I'm submitting "Given Up" by Linkin Park.

You're entitled to hate Linkin Park. Really, it's okay. It's an easy band to hate on and there's no way digging a band this mainstream is cool. And being cool is very, very important.

As I age, I realize trying hard to be cool is very uncool. The cool thing to do is not care if the tune you're digging is cool. I've been digging "Given Up" since the first time I heard it many weeks ago, and I'm still enjoying the clapping intro and Chester's 17 second scream.

It's not from a band nobody's heard of and it's not even that fresh but it makes me happy and that's pretty damn cool.

Not a LP fan but I do like that tune. I guess that makes me even uncooler but I'm old and don't give a crap anymore :)

I've got prunes in my kitchen fresher then this, however last year when this came out it was bad ass. Well better late then never, if its got Rick Rubin's stamp on it I'm down.

Ok, but the album came out in 2008, and for some reason our station here only started playing it in June or so.

It was great live, too.

Jason, I thought I chased you away?

I'm pretty sure it came out in spring of 2007...I'm no rocket appliance but that's over a year ago

You're right. May 2007... damn, I'm totally off.

Mike: Why because you put me in my place and in retrospect you were probably right?

Just because I don't agree with everything you write doesn't mean I don't enjoy this site often.

If you don't want me to comment, that's cool too.

And, if a song makes you happy, there's no need to justify it.

The blogosphere needs rivalries and spice. This is a throw down.

Bleed it Dry was by far the best song on the album. No clue why they don't have Shinoda doing his rap thing on more songs.

I had read that they were moving away from that style... this was the first LP album that was not produced entirely by Shinoda... and the co-producer was to keep them from that rap-rock style. I think a couple more tracks with rap would've worked.
