J. P. Ricciardi Will Soon Be Gone

Published August 11, 2008 @ 15:31 in Toronto Blue Jays

JaysBoy, am I ever glad we cut Reed Johnson. That Reeder was no Shannon Stewart. All Reeder did was play awesome defense, hit for average and play his heart out.

If you haven't heard, the Blue Jays just released Shannon Stewart. Stewart hit .240 with one homer and 14 RBIs in 52 games this season. Reeder is batting .300 with six homers and 41 RBIs in 77 games this season. Unfortunately, Reed is now a Chicago Cub.

J. P. Ricciardi is gone the week after the regular season ends.

Yeah, is it too late to ask for a mulligan on that decision? Yikes, what a mess.

The same problem exists as MLSE - supporting the GM until it's too late.
I bet JP around for for 1 last shot in 2009.

THANK GOD, get Cito a real GM so he can get some quality players in here.
JP did do a great job putting this pitching staff together, just not so good with keeping the offense.
You know I think in a way its not his fault, who could have guessed they would have had half the roster injured last year, who knew Troy Glaus was going to go to St. Louis and kill the friggin ball, who knew that Scott Rolen wouldn't. Shannon Stewart lifetime is a better hitter than Reed Johnson, AJ Burnett is finally starting to piece things together career high in wins. If this team stayed healthy, including Aaron Hill this year it could be a different story. If not for all the injuries last year we would have been talking a playoff team. Thats not the GMs fault.
What i do blame on JP is being a PR nightmare, the comments, the fueds with players, poor selection of managers, Cito was his first good choice and that fell into his lap.
The comments about ADam Dunn. They way he conducts himself in the free agent market and outside of the organization pisses players off, see Adam Dunn. He has himself in a position where he has to overpay to get anyone with a name to sign here, though Cito as manager may help that because guys love playing for Cito.

JP made bad decisions this year has to be accounted for. He was given 5 years to get things turned around. Are we going to suffer, another 40 years like the LAFFS (I mean Leafs).
Probably.
