Ball Girl Catch of the Century

Published by Toronto Mike on June 26, 2008 @ 21:33 in Sports

baseballI just got back from the Piranhas first win in franchise history. That's right, my horrible recreational softball team won 24-15 tonight. I went 6 for 6 with 6 runs scored, but who's counting...

This isn't about me and it isn't about the Piranhas'. This is about a ball girl who made the best damn catch this side of Reed Johnson. You have to see this to believe it. It's awesome.

Update: She's a fake. A viral marketing nugget that slipped past the radar.

I saw that this morning and watched in amazement and girl pride. Then I read it was an ad and not real. Tell me it isn't so.

Yup, sorry Jill and Mike. It's a fake - a Gatorade ad planted as a viral video:

Damn, I knew something was wrong with that video.

1. The ball girl can't make that catch! She can't risk interfering with a ball the fielder could play. There's no way an ball person would attempt to catch a ball in that area of the park with the left fielder approaching.

2. Her vertical is unnatural - it was all too perfect.

Still, I posted it as if it was real so Gatorade deserves some credit for fooling the jaded.

Yeah, it's really well done. Pretty realistic with the shooting style and announcer voiceover. I had my suspicions at first but didn't read about the background until later. It was still a fun one to watch.
