Happiness is a Sweep of the Sens

Published April 17, 2008 @ 09:37 in Sports

humourHistorically, the greatest rival of the Toronto Maple Leafs has been the Montreal Canadiens. My dislike of the Habs, however, pales in comparison to my absolute hatred of the Ottawa Senators.

I don't just hate the Sens, I despise them. I understand that those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, but I'm loving this collapse by the team voted most likely to win the cup back in October. Damn, they came out of the gate like gangbusters and for a while we were wondering if they'd set a new standard for regular season excellence. Then, it all went to shit and they couldn't stop the slide. It was awesome.

I'm actually glad the Leafs didn't take out the Sens on April 3rd because it allowed this to happen. We Leaf fans, without a team to root for, collectively embraced ABO and witnessed a glorious four game sweep at the hands of the young and exciting Pittsburgh Penguins. Next to a series win by the Leafs, this is the best hockey news possible.

It's a fantastic feeling, but it makes me nostalgic for the days we used to knock the Sens out of the playoffs. It seems like yesterday I wrote this entry after we ousted the Senators in 7 back in 2004. We met the Sens in the playoffs 4 times in 5 years and took 'em out every single damn time. Sweet, sweet memories...

Dear Mike,
Are you high?
Sweet sweet memories?
Please.
At least Ottawa has done something the Leafs haven't in 4 years and that's make the playoffs and uh weren't they in the Stanly Cup finals last year?
Sure they sucked and lost but at least they were there, the Leafs just sucked and lost and went back for more sucking and losing.
Wake up or I'm going to only read Argie's Blog.

Hey buzzkill Howie, don't give Argie any ideas... unless he hires Toronto's premiere blogosphere consultant.

The Sens made one final, true, but this version of the franchise has yet to win it all, and do you know why? Because they're a bunch of whiny choke artists. They can't blame Yashin anymore. Four Leafs ~ Sens series, four Leaf series wins. 'Nuff said.

As long as the habs are still in the playoffs I wont sleep easy.

Mike: I was beginning to think if another guy named ‘agrie’ had started a blog.

Fred’n Steve: Very true. Our attention now turns to hexing the dreaded Habs and their annoying fans.

Last year I went to a few ottawa blogs and heckled them. This year I'm going to spare them the embarassment. So the Leafs didn't make the playoffs, but there's nothing worse than going down in four straight... :D :D :D :D

"There's nothing worse than going down in 4 straight!"
Yes there is. It's not making the playoffs for 4 years and not being in the Stanly Cup finals since Sargent Pepper was a new release.
Holy crap. Figure it out Leaf fans Toronto is the laughing stock, not Ottawa. Why? Because your team is so God awful that all you have left is hating another team and the sweet memories of beating them in the playoffs. The playoffs you haven't been in sine the early part of this century.

Screw all your logic.... Ottawa going down is greatness!!!

Ottawa sux because they have talent and can't do anything with it. We (TML) have a bunch of bums and a dude named Sundin.... so our fate is clear.

When is Websters going to update the definition for Underachiever?

If YOUR satisfaction is having the Sen's lose then why have a season of hockey.
The Leafs will never do anything with present MGT.
You encapsulate each Leaf game on your blog just to be PISADOINTED at season's end. A season of discontent again. Take your allegiance's to another team.

And yes, far better to remember Cory Cross for that OT winner than as "the guy we traded Freddie Modin for", yikes.

We're disappointed with the Leafs, but no logic has been presented above as to why we can't be disappointed and thrilled that Ottawa failed again on the road to the Stanley Cup. We've only been reminded by the likes of howard that the team's performance has been lousy. But those proud of their team's underachievement are laughable, because evidently they don't grasp the goal of hockey, which is an ultimate one. There is no trophy for second place, or sixteenth after all.

Dad & Mom are on the verge of a violent divorce. The presiding judge is speaking to their son as to which abusing parent the kid wants to live with.

Judge: Son, do you want to go live with your dad or you mom?

Child : I want to live with the Toronto Maple Leafs/

Judge : The Leafs? Why?

Child : Cause they never beat anyone.
