Virgin Festival 2008 Tickets

Published March 28, 2008 @ 19:05 in My 2 Cents

ticketstubsAt some point over the past few years, the price of concert tickets in this city jumped. I used to attend plenty of big shows, and it wasn't that long ago that $50 was a pretty expensive ticket. That's changed, especially with festival shows.

Virgin Festival 2008 tickets go on sale tomorrow. The lineup is great, with the Foo Fighters, Oasis, Bloc Party, Paul Weller and others, but the price put me in sticker shock. They want $159 for a two-day ticket.

This may come as a surprise to many of you, but I don't have that kind of cabbage in my concert going slush fund. I'm still hearing about the $80 Edgefest 2008 is setting me back and the $118 I'm spending on slo-pitch. Coughing up 200 bones for the Foo and friends isn't an option at this point in my life, and by the time I can afford it, a two day concert on the island will likely be the last thing I'm up for.

If Sir Richard Branson is reading this, I'd love to cover this event free of charge. You just have to send me a couple of tix for the September 6 & 7 weekend. Drop me a line and I'll give you the address where you can send the Virgin Festival 2008 tickets.

I bought tickets to see Rush at the ampitheatre in July. 2 tickets for my wife and I was $180. I have a ticket stub from 1977 for Rush at MSG $7 in the reds. I think the greens were even less. That's just how it is now. Sometime in the mid ninties prices seeemed to jump dramatically. Ticketmaster is part of the problem.

Not to mention the record companies, and the fact they're pretty much going under at the moment. Concerts are one of the few ways that artists can really make money for themselves and not their overlords.

I saw the Foo's last Saturday for $75 and in hindsight I woulda paid double for the show they put on. But I'm definitely torn over paying $15+ more for less of a set and less comfortable venue especially so soon after the last show. If they were playing the ACC or Amphitheatre again instead, different story.

Kanye and Rihanna are coming to town in May; to buy pre-sale tickets you needed to pay Mr. West $25 to join his fanclub, which then put you in the running for tickets (not guaranteeing tickets). So people paid about $120 after fees PLUS $25 for a fan club registration... that kinda stuff pisses me off, like why so much for a concert? It's honestly put me off of his music for the time being, especially seeing as how I just got a great show last week for $75 total.

Bah, try to make it to a Jack White show... if I were to guess, I'd say Raconteurs would be the next chance vs. the White Stripes.
