I Liked That? Get The Funk Out!

musicI got asked an interesting question the other day. I was asked what was the most embarrassing thing on my iPod. My thoughts instantly turned to some rather cheesy late-80s rap I still enjoy, then I wondered if it could be Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone". The question had me revisiting the cheesier tunes and artists I've enjoyed over the years.

Without a doubt, the most embarrassing album in my collection is Vanilla Ice's To The Extreme. I actually refused to rip that album to MP3 for years for fear people would point and laugh at me as I walked the streets of Toronto. Less embarrassing than that, but equally concerning to me now, is the fact I really liked Extreme's Pornograffiti.

Pornograffiti hooked me with "Get The Funk Out". I was really enjoying the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the time, and Extreme seemed to be cut from the same funky rock cloth. It didn't take long for me to realize I was betting on the wrong horse and way off base. When "More Than Words" broke, I was out like Buster Douglas.

Here's a song I can't believe I liked. Don't tell anyone, k?

Hahahaha. I just ripped a few songs off this disc a few weeks back, including this one. I won't tell if you don't.

I may have to stop reading the Blog :( Man did that suck. I can honestly say I have nothing even close to that bad on my Ipod. Mind you I do have some 70's hard rock that's not so great but....

I can't imagine how you could compare that to RHCP. We have all had our poor choices but damn.

Damn.

I didn't say it compared favourably to RHCP.

"Get the Funk Out" couldn't touch anything on Mother's Milk. No worries there...

One more thing worth noting... this song is not on my iPod. I listened to it in the very early 90s, but not recently....

I swear.

The video is 110% cheese, but I like the song. I'd put it on my iPod if I had one. So sue me. :P

Yeah, you can also put me down as being one of the select few who saw Gary Cherone's short lived stint fronting Van Halen in August 1998 at the Molson Ampitheatre.

For my own purposes I refer to this dark period as Extreme Van Halen.
