Wade Belak Traded to Florida

leafsIt's deadline day, and we have our first trade by Uncle Cliffy.

Wade Belak has been traded to the Florida Panthers in exchange for a 5th round pick in 2008. Belak was in his 7th season with the Leafs during which time he scored a whopping six goals. Needless to say, he wasn't kept around for his scoring touch.

You can't call any trade involving Belak a bad trade for Toronto. It's Belak. The only reason he's even still playing is because he's too much of an idiot to realize the enforcer thing doesn't really work anymore. Mind you, the only reason he was still in toronto to be traded was because JFJ was the GM. Need I say more?

Although Belak won't be remembered for his scoring, don't underestimate the impact he has had on the fans here in Toronto. You're right, the enforcer does not serve its traditional purpose anymore, but it does serve as an injection of team spirit to the fans. Case in point: when Toronto lost 8-0 to Florida, the crowd was chanting Belak's name to spark some life into the team by using his physical talents. I think his presence in Toronto was well worth the meager 625 K a year he was compensated. We will miss him.

I usually dislike goons but Belak seemed like a nice guy. If Kipryos and Domi can get a job in broadcasting after their crappy careers I’m sure there’s a job lined up for Belak.

This is the only trade Fletcher could manage. He’s senile I tell you! This is how he starts the re-building of the Leafs?

Re: Belak. He always seemed like a funny young man and a nice guy, and he always put in a good effort, but he's a fringe player.

Re: Uncle Cliffy. I thought this was the first of many. Where are my trades?
