Maple Leafs 2, Kings 5

LeafsI've always been fascinated by the large contingent of Leafs fans who constantly wear rose coloured glasses. You know these guys, they believe in their team and will defend them and every facet of the organization until hell freezes over.

I love this team. I always have. I love this team, but I'm embarrassed by what my beloved franchise has become. I came of age during the Harold Ballard era, so I know dysfunction, but the current state of affairs makes me cringe. It's so bad, I don't even feel like writing about it anymore. Firstly, we're horrible. Secondly, there's no hope for the immediate future. Finally, I have no faith management will do what's in the best interest of this team. That's a recipe for sports fan disgust.

Do any fellow Leaf fans feel there's any chance of making the playoffs this season? If Toskala somehow stands on his head and slips us into 8th place in the conference, isn't that a worst-case scenario? Are we now at the point where loving this team means rooting for losses?

Amen, brother. I think with the Pal Hal years it was at least somewhat better, because a) we were just kids and 2) the Leafs had always been bad as far as we knew.

But when you've seen this team drive into the playoffs and actually get you believing they have a chance, this is twice as tough.

I think it might be to that point, Mike... a top 5 draft pick might actually provide some hope and convince Mats for the good of the team to let them trade him ABO (anywhere but Ottawa) to get some assets/picks to build around.

I fully agree with you agreeing with me.

I love this team and that's why I will root against them. Then, the likelihood of Mats agreeing to a trade and a better draft choice will be our reward.

Time to trade our best player - Sundin & get something back for future before trading deadline this year.
Mats then to sign next year again with the Leafs (UFA).
Win at both ends.
