Buntzen Lake Suspension Bridge

Published January 18, 2008 @ 12:58 in The Tragically Hip

bridgeLast March I shared the video for The Tragically Hip's "Yer Not The Ocean" and asked if anyone knew where I could find the featured suspension bridge.

Some guessed it was the Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver but that wasn't it. Then some thought it might be the suspension bridge at Scenic Caves in Collingwood, Ontario, but that wasn't it either. Now, almost a year later, we have an answer. This comment was left on my Flickr account.

Hello Mike,

You won't need a passport to visit this suspension bridge! The bridge in the video is the Buntzen Lake suspension bridge near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Of course you can just search "buntzen lake suspension bridge" on "everyone's photos".

While I haven't been to that one yet - I have been to 696 other suspension bridges. It's a hobby of mine; as a quick view of my postings to Flickr will attest. I've been to BC to visit suspension bridges, but just didn't get to Vancouver.

I first became aware of your request for this bridge's location through your Toronto Mike blog, but ended up here on Flickr which I'm very familiar with.

Best regards,
Patrick

So there you have it. If you want to see the bridge below, head to Buntzen Lake. Thanks, Patrick!

Mike,

Glad to be of assistance. Now if I could only help with your Maple Leafs addiction. :) Lets go FLYERS!!!

I was Googling "snowmobile swinging bridge" for images and info for an upcoming bridging trip to Quebec and about the 4th page in was the "Yer Not the Ocean" picture of the suspension bridge with the caption "If you know where this bridge is," under it. I didn't recognize it right away from the thumbnail, but suspected it was the Buntzen Lake bridge when viewing the larger picture on your blog. Watching the video and getting a clear view of the tower of the bridge made it a ringer. It's ben on my "to see" list for five years. I make it out to Vancouver someday. Being from 60 miles west of Philly makes it that I don't get there too often.

PS A belated Happy Anniversary!
