The Best Band From The Last Ten Years

musicI heard "Icky Thump" on the way to work this morning. I turned up the volume and funked out. It was so raw, so catchy, and those lyrics are super cool. It's a tremendous single.

Then I started to think about other radio singles from The White Stripes. They're all amazing. The album cuts are ultra cool, too. I was chatting with a bud about today's music when I heard myself say it. The White Stripes are the best band from the past ten years.

Who's better?

The Artic Monkeys, Coldplay, The Rancontuers (SP?), Arcade Fire, U2 is still around....The Vines, Hot Hot Heat...There are still good bands out there...
The Hip? Who has been better than the Hip granted they havent had the States popularity but I would put the last three hip CDs up against any CD released in the last ten years....

Everyone knows I'm a Hip guy, and I love what I've heard from Arcade Fire, but I still rank The White Stripes on top... and way ahead of U2.

I saw the White Stripes open for the Rolling Stones approx. 4 years ago & 1/2 the ACC left when they played. I stayed & was not impressed.
Maybe their toonage has changed since then.

Best band of the last ten years sounds a little much...they havent even been around for 10 years. Green Day?

Maybe Mike what we are seeing is a turn around in the music industry, maybe some of these lesser known bands are finally starting to be recognized a little. which is good. The last ten years have been pretty lean on decent music...But lately I find myself listening to CFNY again because I know im going to hear things like Arcade Fire, The white stripes and the artic Monkeys. Best band in the last ten years is a little muchso far. But I will admit What I have heard from them is good , I think there are a lot of good bands out there right now that deserve credit for not putting out crap.

The White Stripes formed in '97 and released their first album in '99 - I'd say that's about ten years.

And The White Stripes body of work during that period beats Green Day's, Arctic Monkeys and Queens of the Stone Age, in my opinion.

I think the Chili Peppers take the title as the best band in the past 10 years. The quality of music as been bar none and they've had steady releases over said time period.

Unfortunatley the new QOTSA CD Sucks Sucks Sucks...
