The Middle Name Surprise

Published by Toronto Mike on April 15, 2007 @ 17:59 in Family

familyI've known my younger brother Steve for all of his life, but until very recently, I didn't know his name. I'm not alone, our own mother didn't know his name either. In fact, Steve didn't know his own name.

It turns out Steve's middle name is not what we thought it was. For most of his life, he's been using the wrong middle name and we've been misinformed as to what actually appears on his birth certificate. The name we thought he had and the name he actually has aren't even similar.

Strange but true.

I guess my dad switched up Steve's middle name at the last second when it was registered at the hospital over 28 years ago.

My mom thought he had a different middle name, so we've all assumed he had this middle name until recently Steve had to get a birth certificate for some reason and saw a completely different name between 'Stephen' and 'Boon'.

Yeah, it's a little confusing. ;-)

I actually found out at 13 when I got my birth certificate for my SIN application. I've been using that middle name on everything for over 15 years now.

Thanks for curing my curiousity. That is a very cool random fact that your brother can share with his kids one day.
