Jory Steinberg, From Ottawa to American Idol

Published by Toronto Mike on January 25, 2007 @ 09:05 in American Idol

idolIdol was in New York yesterday and we were pummelled with the crazies. There were a few good auditions, however, including one from Jory Steinberg.

Jory Steinberg is Canadian. She was born and raised in Ottawa and a little Googling reveals she starred in Les Miserable at the age of eleven. Simon seemed to dig her, and did I mention she's Canadian? Here's her audition.

I hope this girl wins! She sounds sweet and looks sweet.

This girl is a natural born singer. She has the potential to win the American Idol contest but let's not foreget this in an American show with only one non-US judge on the panel. The non-American factor may prove to be her undoing. Let's face it, American judges are going to favour "born in the USA" or naturalized US contestants over other nationalities.

Well, I went to high school with Jory and though I'm not in touch with her, I know that this girl deserves to win...or at least make it to the top 10. She has wanted to be a singer since she was itty bitty and (from what I've heard through the rumour mill) specifically left Canada for this reason. In a perfect world, the "born outside of USA" thing should work to her advantage because she CHOSE the US. Personally, I hope to see her continue to stun the judges.

It's a shame that JOry was cut in the first rounds of HOllywood week. SHe was really great then to, but SImon for some reason didn't like her.

I went to high school with Jory, she was a major snob and totally full of herself.
