MusicI stumbled upon a discussion regarding the new Red Hot Chili Pepper song "Dani California". I don't know how I missed this, but the tune is identical to Tom Petty's "Mary Jane’s Last Dance".

Go ahead and play the two songs in your head. Or better yet, listen to this MP3. I'm sure the Peppers weren't ripping off Petty intentionally, but it's a definite copy. It's like Crazy Town's "Butterfly" vs. "Pretty Little Ditty" without the credit.

Yeah the moment this was pointed out to me I was like holy crap they are the same! Since then I heard Sweet home Alabama on the radio and noticed some similarity between those two. The crazy part is that Tom Petty wants to sue, WTF!? Big deal.

What makes it all so interesting is that the two songs have something in common. They were both produced by Rick Rubin.

The SLS committee has held an emergency meeting and will be bumping "Dani California" from SLS15. Ricky's got some 'splainin to do.

You're slow on the RHCP/T. Petty thing. I heard about that weeks ago. Mix played the beginning of both songs in comparison one morning as I was driving to work.
