Leafs Trade For Luke Richardson

LeafsThe Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired Luke Richardson from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a fifth-round draft pick and a conditional fourth round pick.

I remember Richardson well as a first round pick of the Leafs who spent his first four seasons here. He was part of a monster trade in 1991 which saw him, Vincent Damphousse, Peter Ing and Scott Thornton go to Edmonton for Glenn Anderson, Grant Fuhr and Craig Berube.

I would have loved to have seen us trade for Richardson ten years ago, but today he's a 36 year old in the twilight of his NHL career. We need solid, mobile, young denfensemen for our future. I'm concerned that Ferguson really does think we have a shot at the cup this season. Is he delusional, stupid or both? Is this really the time to trade two draft picks for a player in decline?

In other Leaf-related news, the Boston Bruins have claimed Mariusz Czerkawski on waivers. Farewell sweet prince, we hardly knew thee.
