Will everyone back off! We've had the world's tallest freestanding structure for thirty damn years and now every time I read the news somebody's trying to steal that claim.
Our CN Tower soars 553 metres high. Chicago announced today they're building a 610 metre structure called Fordham Spire. Earlier in the week, Tokyo announced they were building a 600 metre structure. Previously written about here, the Chinese city of Guangzhou has already announced plans to build the 580-600 metre Guangzhou TV tower and construction has already began on a building in Dubai, UAE, which will rise to over 700 metres of combined office and condo use.
Bring it on Chicago, Tokyo, Dubai and Guangzhou. We in Toronto have 553 metres of pride and the largest erection in the world for thirty years.
