Name That Band

Published by Toronto Mike on February 13, 2006 @ 20:20 in Music

Question MarkEarlier today, my brother Ryan sent me this picture which is said to contain 72 musical artists. Without cheating, I challenged myself to find all 72. As you'll see from clicking that link, I've so far only named 62, and I'm pretty sure a few of my guesses are wrong.

Have a gander and leave me a comment if you can name one I haven't got yet or if you've found an error. To see my 62 guesses just hover your mouse over the notes.

Go!

Some of these are so vague. I can't stop staring at this picture and trying to figure out some abstract bands that are signed with Virgin Records.

Crowded House? That isn't a house is it? That is not right by my standards.

Ok, I've added Bee Gees, Dancehall Crashers and Iron Maiden. I'm not sold on the others, although I concede The Eels is possible...

That ain't Twisted Sister and that ain't Jane's Addiction and that ain't a bush.

You don't have the whole picture. There's a chunk missing on the left hand side. I was doing this over Xmas at work so when I get in tomorrow (4am your time, I'm in the UK) I'll email you the whole pic. Though you can also find it online, I am sure.

I don't know for sure if they were with Virgin but the trails behind the B-52s could be The Vapours.

I got a really grainy copy of the virgin website and on the left edge is The Pet Shop Boys. There is also a cat or something there too. I need a better quality pic

Spandau Ballet - two persons in complicated body position

Yellowman is more likely Living colour to me, but OK

those 3 guys on roof could be Carpenters - one is having a tool (hammer?)

Pink sky could also be Pink floyd

shop on corner? Cornershop

what puzzles me is - where are The Beatles & Elvis? how come they are excluded?because, they are too big.

Alice in Chains doesn't qualify - first demos came in '89, first release in '90.
