The Polish Prince

LeafsThe Toronto Maple Leafs signed Mariusz Czerkawski to a one-year deal yesterday. This is yet another gamble in an off season of gambles. The Polish Prince has scored before, but apparently he was a healthy scratch for many games in Sweden last year. Ouch.

Czerkawski is here because he comes cheap. We signed him for half a million in the hopes that he can find his scoring touch again. Other recent Leaf gambles include Jason Allison, Eric Lindros, and to a lesser extent, Jeff O'Neill. If all four work out, this could be fun. If all four bust, this could be horrific.

According to The Official MikeBoon.com Maple Leaf Countdown Clock, there is exactly 24 days, 23 hours, 57 minutes, and 32 seconds left until the Maple Leafs opener.
