Good News For Robbie

Ryne Sandberg was voted into the baseball Hall of Fame this afternoon.  He appeared on 76.2 per cent of ballots, just above the 75 per cent cutoff.  Personally, I don't think Sandberg belongs in the Hall of Fame.  He was a fantastic second baseman for the Cubs with some pop in the bat and great defense, but I don't believe he's worthy of this honour.

As a Blue Jays fan, I'm glad he's there.  If he got in, Roberto Alomar will surely follow when he's eligible.  Alomar is the best player to ever don a Blue Jays uniform and he was the best second baseman in baseball for a solid decade.  He hit for average, had good power, played awesome D and was an excellent base stealer.  Furthermore, he was clutch and a key component of our two World Series Championships.  Most importantly, he was clearly a better player than Ryne Sandberg and should therefore be voted in to Cooperstown.

When Alomar is inducted into the Hall of Fame, he'll be the first to go in wearing a Blue Jays cap.  It will be a proud day in the big smoke.
