Sacre Blue!

Sacre Blue!

Is nothing sacred?  As I write this, James is enjoying an episode of one of his favourite shows, "Blues Clues".  What I just witnessed has quite upset me.  Blue, the cute little dog and keeper of the clues, is talking.

For the past couple of years I've been forced to watch this show, one constant was the fact Blue never spoke.  He made a strange high-pitched sound that only Steve or Joe could decipher, but he never spoke in clear English.  Today he did and that's just not right.

This reminds me of a similar stunt those cats at Sesame Street pulled a few years back.  Snuffleupagus was Big Bird's best friend and a wooly mammoth sort of fellow.  The key to his character when I was a kid was the fact nobody could see him except Big Bird.  Then, as a teenager, I was devastated to learn that he was no longer invisible but could be seen by all.  Blue speaking is akin to Snuffleupagus being visible to every Tom, Dick and Harry that ventures on to Sesame Street.

Aloysius Snuffleupagus should have remained invisible and Blue should never have learned the English language.  What's next?  Will Dora the Explorer get her tongue pierced?  Will the Bear in the Big Blue House move to a condo?  Sacre Blue!
