Pit Bulls: Banned

Pit Bulls: BannedOntario's Attorney General Michael Bryant has announced a plan to rid my province of all pit bulls, making it illegal to buy or bring the dog into Ontario. I only wonder what took him so long and why we didn't do this years ago.

Every time I pass a pit bull, I fear for my safety. As the father of two children, I won't even walk them in the vicinity of one of these ticking time bombs. I have no doubt in my mind that this breed of dog is inherently dangerous. Pit bulls account for a little over one per cent of the dog population, but are involved in half the serious incidents involving dogs. Banning them makes sense.

Before you brand me as some city-livin'-dog-hater, I'll remind you I've been living with a dog for over eight years now. Booner even sleeps in my bed but I know she couldn't hurt a fly if she wanted to, and I know she doesn't want to.

With so many wonderful breeds of dog, I've often wondered why some defend the pit bull so adamantly. How many Ontarians have to be maimed or killed before we realize such a dog is unsafe? Current pit bull owners won't have to hand over their dogs, but will face restrictions, including mandatory neutering and spaying.

It's about time.

did you know that even dogs like yours have killed before. About 5 years ago a little 6 week old baby was killed by the family pommeranian when it was left on the bed with the baby. What would you do if the ban on Pit bulls led to yours being banned too. It's happening in Italy where they started out with 13 dog breeds on the ban list and now they are up to 40 breeds.

i am just wondering have you ever owned or known anyone with a pitbull? because if you havent you do not have a leg to stand i understand why some people write and say stuff about them but im guessing its because you watch the news or have read the paper when the ban was becoming
bill 132 is b.s even if you hate pitbulls with all your might you have to keep in mind is this the right thing to do in canada having the gov tell us what we can and can not have this will all go to the gov head and who is to say when your great grand kids are around CANADA might end up like china where we are told how many kids we can have and so on and so forth this is a bigger problem then what most of us are thinking we have to look at the big picture and see that we should not let the province or country have a say on what we can own as a family member yes i think pitbulls can kill but so can many other dogs i dont think its just pits i think it is any large to medium breed i know some little ones have killed and are means as hell i would never bring one in to my home but the bigger ones can do more damage i just wish you would make a point to get to know them because so many people with pitbulls or any bullie breed would be more then glade to prove you wrong and i bet you would fall in love with the breed yourself infact i left my email addy you are more then welcome to meet mine

I completely agree with you comments. I nanny in a house with a pit bull and there are times where I feel his behavior is suspicious and I do not want him around the kids. When there is one loose in my neighborhood I feel that I can't walk my dog for fear of mine and my dog's safety. I have been at a friend's house who had an American bulldog (a version somewhat of a pitbull) and out of nowhere it attacked my boyfriend. I think with this unpredictability they should completely be banned. How many deaths or injuries does it take?
