A Mighty Wind

movies

It's hard to make a good comedy.  That's why there are so few of them out there.  One guy who seems to know how to film funny is Christopher Guest.  I laughed hysterically at his mockumentary masterpieces "Waiting For Guffman" and "Best in Show" and I just enjoyed his latest comedy "A Mighty Wind".

The cast for all three flicks is pretty well the same and they follow the same blueprint.  In "A Mighty Wind", you get your usual gold from Guest, Harry Shearer, Michel McKean, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Fred Willard and the others.  "A Mighty Wind" isn't quite as funny as "Waiting for Guffman" and "Best in Show", but it's far funnier than the vast majority of so called comedies released in theatres.

I should also mention that the music is quite enjoyable.  All of the songs were written by Eugene Levy, Christopher Guest and other actors in the cast who also played all their own instruments.  "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" was actually nominated for best original song as this year's Academy Awards.
