Maple Leafs 4, Capitals 1

Go Leafs Go!

Suddenly, things are looking up for the Leafs.  Bryan McCabe played his first game of the season and looked very good scoring a goal and adding an assist.  Other positives were the play of Eddie Belfour, great penalty killing and the end of Mats Sundin's scoring slump.  My only question is, were the Leafs that good or were the Capitals that bad?

Of course, the highlight of this game occurred before the puck was dropped.  Doug Gilmour was honoured at the ACC for his five years and five minutes of outstanding service for the blue and white.  I wrote about #93 when he announced his retirement, when God took him away and prior to last season's trade deadline when I urged Pat Quinn to trade for him.  Gilmour was the heart and soul of this squad when he took us within a game of the Cup final and he deserves all the praise in the world.  I will continue to wear my Gilmour jersey with pride.

Speaking of the tribute, if it was good enough for Seinfeld, I suppose it's good enough for Dougie.  Green Day's Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) has become the de facto standard for farewells.  I can't imagine a goodbye video montage without it.
