Rosy And Grey - Lowest of the Low

play Rosy And Grey - Lowest of the Low
Shakespeare My Butt... came out in 1991. It wasn't just a decent independent release by a Toronto band, it was incredible. It remains one of my ten favourite Canadian albums of all-time.

CFNY played the crap out of "Salesmen, Cheats and Liars", "Eternal Fatalist", "Bleed a Little While Tonight" and "Henry Needs a New Pair of Shoes", so I'm sharing something a little different.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the song that will start my podcast.

play The Waltons - The Naked Rain
This 1992 hit from Regina's The Waltons got a shitload of airplay on CFNY and I never grew tired of it.

If you like this, you'd dig Lik My Trakter.

Ah Björk, how I've missed you. This is the first hit from Björk's band and it still sounds great.

Oh... and birthdays rule.

hHead - Happy

MP3Week three of the long anticipated return of the weekly mp3 and I actually remembered to post an mp3 this Wednesday.

You have seven days to grab this week's MP3. Please right-click your mouse and select "Save Link As..." or "Save target as..." so you can download it before playing.

play hHead - Happy
I have the New Music Search 1993 compilation from CFNY, and this track appeared on that disc. It's a cool tune, but hHead is best known now for having featured Brendan Canning who would go on to form Broken Social Scene with Kevin Drew.

I'm pretty sure this tune won the New Music Search that year, but I could be mistaken. hHead had formidable competition from Lowest of the Low and Hayden.

Sonic Youth - Kool Thing

MP3Week two of the long anticipated return of the weekly mp3 and I already missed the day. Let's pretend I posted this on Wednesday, shall we?

You have seven days to grab this week's MP3. Please right-click your mouse and select "Save Link As..." or "Save target as..." so you can download it before playing.

play Sonic Youth - Kool Thing
I can't believe "Kool Thing" is 22 years old. In 1990, I was a big Public Enemy fan, so the appearance of Chuck D on this track made a very good thing even better.

Sonic Youth have several great singles tucked away in their extensive catalogue, but "Kool Thing" remains my favourite.

The Beautiful South - A Little Time

MP3Don't call it a comeback...

I used to share an MP3 from my collection every Wednesday, and due to popular demand, I'm bringing it back. You have seven days to grab this week's MP3. Please right-click your mouse and select "Save Link As..." or "Save target as..." so you can download it before playing.

play The Beautiful South - A Little Time
CFNY used to play this track often in early 1991 and I loved it. It was the only hit on this side of the pond from this British band.

It holds up nicely. Still a great track.

I've been watching The Corner on HBO Canada. The Corner originally aired in 2000 and was a pre-cursor of sorts to The Wire, The Greatest Show On Television, Ever™. Naturally, when watching The Corner, I think a lot about The Wire.

Thinking about The Wire always gets me thinking about The Pogues' Body of an American. Damn I love this song.

All week I've had this song bouncing around my head. I just have to hear the name Jessica and I hear it.

It's a great track.

If you're anything like me, you know this song from Pulp Fiction. I have to confess, the only Statler Brothers song I've ever heard is this one and I only know it from the Pulp Fiction movie and soundtrack.

But get this... I totally dig this track. Because it was in my favourite movie of all-time and appeared on one of my favourite movie soundtracks of all-time.

Did anyone out there know this song before Pulp Fiction was released?

I wrote about K-Dot-O-Dot before. He's a friend of my brothers and he's got a great sound.

Here he is covering my all-time favourite Guns N' Roses song.
