The Simpsons

Keep On Truckin'

Keep on Truckin'Rumours have been circulating that The Simpsons could be coming to an end after sixteen seasons. Matt Groening, however, says otherwise.

Speaking with BBC Radio 1, Groening stated the following.

At this point I don't think there's any end in sight. I once said a few years ago that I thought I was closer to the end than the beginning, meaning that, we'd been on air for ten or twelve years at the time and I thought we'd be on another ten years.

So I don't want to give anybody the wrong idea. Of course the show will end eventually, but not for a long, long time.

We've been on the air so long that we've corrupted an entire generation of children and now they've grown up and they're 'Simpsons' writers so the stories are getting really, really weird.

Excellent.

Who's Coming Out

Who's Coming OutBack in late July I wrote about the fact a character on The Simpsons is coming out of the closet next season. I speculated as to who it may be and now I know the answer to this question that has been plaguing me all summer.

I don't want to spoil this for those who want to be surprised, but if you're curious, simply highlight the following text. Patty is coming out. I was right!

Prodigy

ProdigyJames has always enjoyed watching The Simpsons with his daddy. It's been something we've shared since his birth. At an extremely early age he was able to recognize Homer and identify him on sight. He's become a big fan in his own right.

What freaks me out these days is his ability to name the characters from Springfield. He's been able to do this for Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie for quite some time, but recently he's begun doing this for the secondary characters. Show him a photo of Simpsons charactes and he'll point to them one by one and tell you their respective names. Krusty the Clown, Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner, Edna Krabappel, Groundskeeper Willie, Chief Wiggum, Apu, Barney, Moe, Milhouse, Nelson, Ralph, Mr. Burns, Smithers, Grandpa Simpson, Sideshow Bob, Comic Book Guy, Lenny, Carl, Snake, Otto and so on. It's quite impressive.

As much as that freaks me out, what really gets me is his knowledge of the more obscure characters from The Simpsons. I'm referring to people like Disco Stu, Kearny, Dolph, Uter and Hans Moleman. This boy truly is a prodigy.

Who's Gay?

Who's Gay?As all fans of The Simpsons already know, a character is coming out of the closet next season. Last month I speculated that it might be Aunt Patty. The obvious guess is Waylon Smithers, but I'm thinking that's way too obvious.

readaBet.com have just released betting odds for who they think the gay Simpsons character will be. Here are the top ten according to their current odds.

  1. Smithers - 5/2
  2. Patty - 7/2
  3. Selma - 7/2
  4. Kent Brockman - 7/1
  5. Carl - 10/1
  6. Lenny -10/1
  7. Moe - 10/1
  8. Groundskeeper Willie - 10/1
  9. Comic Book Guy - 12/1
  10. Old Sea Captain - 12/1

Homer's Emmy

Homer's EmmyHomer Simpson has won another Emmy. Well actually, Dan Castellaneta won the Emmy, but it was for voicing my hero Homer Simpson as well as Krusty the Clown, Grampa Simpson, Groundskeeper Willie, Barney Gumble and Mel among others.

Woo Hoo!

Who's Coming Out?

Who's Coming Out?A character on The Simpsons is coming out of the closet next season. Matt Groening himself dropped this bombshell but gave no clues as to which character it will be.

The obvious guess is Waylon Smithers who is as queer as a three dollar bill, but that's too easy, right? Assuming it's not Smithers, I'm guessing it's Aunt Patti as they've been dropping hints she's lesbian for a while now. Of course, it could easily be Skinner who has always triggered my gaydar.

I'm just happy to hear Springfield is going to legalize same-sex marriages. What a progressive city it is.

Season Four

Season FourSeason Four of The Simpsons very well may be the best season of all. How can you argue against the season that brought us "A Streetcar Named Marge", "Homer The Heretic", "Homer's Triple Bypass" and "Last Exit to Springfield". Not to mention "Marge vs. The Monorail", "Lisa The Beauty Queen" and "Mr. Plow". Who am I kidding? There isn't a weak episode in the bunch.

The Simpsons: The Complete Fourth Season is available today on DVD. It's a little pricey at $69.98 CAD but a must have for my collection. In fact, I find seasons of The Simpsons are the only DVDs I actually watch. I no longer buy any DVDs outside of The Simpsons because they just end up sitting on the shelf collecting dust.

This time around we'll be hearing episode commentaries from Conan O'Brien, and deleted scenes from episodes such as "The Front" and "Homer's Triple Bypass". It's all very, very good.
