I just submitted a tune for SLS15 consideration. I submitted "Dani Californian" from Red Hot Chili Peppers RHCP.

I can't ever remember being so excited for a single! to be released. Now if I can only make it to May 9th when the double album drops... if I don't first.

I like this spin, others writing guest blogs when they submit a tune for SLS consideration. I actually haven't heard "Dani Californian" yet, but I'm pretty sure it won't be long now. Although I miss the days of Mother's Milk, I still dig the RHCP.

Congrats to Stephen Ames & his victory at the "5th" Major in golf winning the Player's Championship by 6 strokes today. Another major for another Canadian. Too bad our hockey teams don't fair as well. With all he has gone through the last couple of years with his wife's cancer, he truly deserves it. $1.44 million would make life easier as well!

That's some solid coin and a trip to Augusta. It wasn't even close.

Re: Reflex Or Will

A Parable.
She: Why don't you believe in a God?
He: Well, let me answer it this way. I have a friend, a farmer up in Victoria. He has the most amazing tractor, an enormous bloody thing, eight wheels, each wheel as high as me. It pulls his combine harvester, plow and other farm machines. It is an unbelievable thing. Do you have one?
She: No...
He: Why not?
She: I don't need one.

I do not consider myself a religious person but I like most people struggle with issues like: What is good? What does it mean to live a good life? What is the nature of reality? Why are we here and what should we be doing? How should we treat each other? What is really most important in life? As a person without a structured belief system, I choose to use reason and critical thinking whereas religions may make use of reason, but at the very least they also rely on faith, or even use faith to the exclusion of reason. Some people get a lot of comfort from religion, either from the faith itself or from the pleasure of rituals and inherent structure. I would never try to deny them this, and probably am a little jealous at some levels. I do however commandeer such rituals as I want, especially if there is food involved. I tend to avoid any fasting festivals, though...ha,ha.

Am I to graze the great buffet of Catholicism and pick and choose the foods I like? What if I'm not hungry, do I still have to eat? This reminds me, it's time for breakfast. Rice Krispies, here I come!

Zanta's Biggest Fan:

I don't believe i ever did mention Zanta to my brother Mike. I was astounded to read the blog on Zanta. Zanta lives in the next building to me, and spends the majority of his time at Scarlett and Eglinton.

The first Day I saw Zanta I was intimidated by his large muscles and rough exterior. Since that Day I have taken some time to talk to Zanta and I now enjoy our morning chats. Zanta now walks to me if he ever spots me in the area.

I will often hand a cigarette to Zanta and enjoy a smoke with him at 7:15 AM when I am waiting for my bus. Zanta is a very nice guy. I can't imagine what has caused him to take to the streeets sceaming aloud his story of the abduction of his daughter (all the while wearing shorts with no shirt).. but behind the weird exterior of Zanta lies an interesting guy who I enjoy conversing with. I have sat with him countless time on the Scarlett bus when I go shopping on the weekends and he rides the bus to visit his father.

It is now at the point where i sit on my balcony and listen to his rants when i see him outside on the street. Sometimes, it is the most fun I have all Day.

I love you Zanta!!! .. For making life a little bit more interesting.

      Ryan

That's too funny. You're right, we've never discussed Zanta, and yesterday I wrote this about him. Kara chimed in with a comment which was the first time I learned you guys were buds. It's a smaller city than you think.

Yo heads up out there to RHCP fans.. In preparation for the upcoming NEW SINGLE - Dani California the web site has posted a short insightful/hilarious video of some candid banter between the Dudes! Their new stuff sounds friggin' noice. In a bootleg concert recording recently Flea comments to the crowd "if you're smart you'll record this and make some money on the internet with it!" Then they proceed to rock into new songs like 21 Century, Desecration smile, Ready made. So there you go. Shout out to Oink.uk

RHCP is one of those bands that's managed to persevere and stay relevant. It ain't easy to do. They were cool in the 80s and they're pretty cool today.

Ernie & Buck together again with Mr. Gibbons at the helm. Mr Ted Rogers go for it. Unity!!

I'm sold. Buck Martinez got a raw deal last time he came through town. Buck and Ernie are like Fred and Ginger. They belong together.

Bob Rae will decide in the next few days to take the plunge & HOPEFULLY take the challenge going for the leader of the Liberal Party. I lived in his riding - York South Weston for many years & he always was there for us. A Good man but previously with the wrong party (NDP) & now is his chance to lead this country as the other 2 party leaders are useless. Harper is a mirror of DUBYA. Nuff said.

Bank on it - if Rae puts his name on the liberal party, the Liberals will win the next federal election by a landslide.

      dale

I too am quite familiar with Rae's old riding. When rumours first surfaced that he could be the next Liberal leader I mentioned it to a friend who openly laughed at the notion. When his term as premier of Ontario ended in 1995 we had the largest deficit on record and poor ol' Bob Rae was as unpopular as a skunk at a picnic.

It's been ten years and time has dulled those wounds. I think a powerful left-of-centre political force is exactly what this country will need when Stephen Harper's given the hook.

Is there is any way that you can put up the Final Four bracket and allow us to make our selections? I was thinking of something similar to the Oscars Pool, but we can make our selections all the way to the final game and see how many we get correct....

If not than, "Screw you guys, I'm going home..."

      Ryan

Of course I could do that, but in the worlds of the immortal Randy Jackson of American Idol fame, I'm not feelin' it dawg.

When there's another Fab Five let me know and I'll jump back on the bus.

Mike Kic Reports from Costa Rica

Ink StainAnyone is welcome to submit a Guest Blog Entry to TorontoMike.com. I received the following entry earlier today.

Mr. Boon,

I know it has been a while but, since we last left you guys we were in Panama. Well, now we are in Costa Rica and doing a heck of alot of beaching. I can honestly say that the beach life can get quite boring sometimes.... I know I shouldn't complain. Costa Rica is far too expensive and too touristy. We have only been here for about a week but by comparing it to Panama... .well, I prefer Panama. It has the same amazing beaches, less tourists and it is cheaper. We will be here for the next week before heading out to Nicaragua.

Lots of love, hope all is well in the T-dot.

      Mike Kic

Mike and Jordy are exploring Central America and first checked in with this guest blog. Apparently, Panama is more than just a good Van Halen song.

There isn't a lot of beach life here right now, but we did reach double digits in temp today and it was awesome. If you're curious, the Leafs lead Tampa Bay late in the second but Montreal leads the Rangers as well. We expect you or Jordy to check in some time next week.

From ur site I have really developed an obsession for the Simpsons. I used to watch it religiously a few years back in the 90s then somehow lost interest. Until last year when they started showing a repeat of it at 1 am. Since I normally reach home at 12 am and sleep only by 2, it was perfect for me to unwind after a day's work by chilling out to the yellow family.

Two days ago it was the episode in which Homer gets put in an institute for the insane and he shares a room with a big white guy who says & speaks like he is Michael Jackson. And Homer takes him home to Springfield and "Mike" and Bart compose a birthday song for Lisa as a present. Was I ashamed more of the fact that I actually remembered the lyrics of the chorus ("Lisa it's ur birthday, Happy Birthday Lisa") or that a couple of tears went down my eyes as I smiled into the night and sang along? Maybe it was just some dust!!

      Roshan

Don't be ashamed, be proud! That's one of my favourite episodes and I too love that song. In fact, when James was a toddler, he used to love singing and dancing to that song which led to a rather memorable video I used to share. Maybe I'll dig it up and share it again...
