I'm first. That's great. Well, my Diamondbacks won last night. That's great. My Indians or Orioles didn't play. Well, my Indians are at my Orioles. I think Indians will win though. They should. Anyway, Bob Seger is a great singer for sure. Nobody should be covering his songs because they get screwed up. I cringed when Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton sang We Got Tonight. I mean people can be too lazy to write their own songs. So many covers.

Michael Lange

TMLX3 was awesome last night! Both the Royal Pains and Lowest of the Low kicked out some serious fucking jams, Mike's speech was fairly painless, and the beer was great. Congrats to Mike and everyone involved to putting on a great show.

June 28, 2019 @ 8:19 AM

James Edgar

Cannot agree more with Michael Lange! fantastic night and i won a gift card from Palma Pasta on top of everything else! Thanks to Mike Wilner for having the oldest Jam! And of course thanks to Palma Pasta! Very Generous gift card and i'm looking forward to using it!

Big thanks to Mike a truly perfect get together The Royal Pains were fantastic as usual and an acoustic set from Ron and Lawrence from the Lowest of the Low was just amazing.

And a big thanks to GLB for a great venue and even better beer.

And congrats to you both @James Edgar and @Michael Lange for winning gift cards!

I think Michael won a Tim Hortons card from Brian Gerstein and James won a Palma Pasta card.

Special thanks to Andie and Dawn for archiving the festivities on their phones (until they were out of storage space). Andie, btw, gave me the best shirt.

And Stephanie and Liz, who were here well before the podcast. Amazing.

And Beatts and jj, a couple of current Open Mikers who make the trek. Let me dig up a pic of us I took yesterday....

Name a more epic trio. Go ahead, I'll wait....

June 28, 2019 @ 8:58 AM

The ‘girls’ of TorontoMike would be more epic! Maybe at TMLX4?

June 28, 2019 @ 9:10 AM

Lievefamke - you were missed! Moose Grumpy/Dawn really held it down for us ladies while I hovered in the back haha.

Beatts - It was good to put a face to the name :)

Thanks for snapping the picture Mike!

June 28, 2019 @ 10:26 AM

Happy belated!

I'm sorry I missed it ... I could have probably made it, but I was just was not feeling the 25+ KM ride back home after a long day.

June 28, 2019 @ 10:32 AM

Al The Royal Pain

I had a blast! LOTL were great and super nice guys.

Great to see some returning faces Hebsy, Brian, 'Rush' Mike, Michael Lange, James Edgar, Marc Weisblott, et al.

I got a kick out of meeting Beatts! You're not nearly as sarcastic in person. Hope I'm not ruining your rep by saying that. ;P

I'm a little bummed that I didn't meet JJ. I didn't know who she was. Lievefamke's nametags were sorely missed.

Missed Elvis and Ed Conroy.

June 28, 2019 @ 10:42 AM

Looks like a great time was had by all. I love putting a name to a face. Great start to the long weekend for everyone. Happy Canada Day.

June 28, 2019 @ 11:06 AM

OMG and I met Marc and Brian, which was awesome too. Good times! :)

June 28, 2019 @ 11:14 AM

Outstanding event. Thank you to Brian Gerstein for the Tim Hortons gift card I won. A beautiful evening for some truly fantastic live music on the patio. Walked back home down Royal York with a couple of guys (can't remember their names) who had GoTrain'd from downtown to the event. GLB does a great job welcoming people who are at their great brewery for the first time.

June 28, 2019 @ 11:23 AM

Thanks for the kind shout-out on that other page, but I feel pretty confident in stating that my
absence last night was of little consequence. Hasn't happened yet, but I still strongly believe
that my ideal crowd is a proctologist's convention. After all, they do have a lot of experience dealing with and handling assholes!!! Besides, last night I ultimately found myself at the DQ situated at
Ellesmere and Kennedy, in the midst of exchanging some real juicy innuendos 'bout Cherry Slushies
with my long-suffering Sweetie!!

June 28, 2019 @ 12:00 PM

Had an amazing time! (Sorry we had to dip out halfway through The lowest of the lows set- The drive home is a bit long).

So great to meet many of you! Mike, JJ, James Edgar, Marc Weisblott, Al, Hebsy. Also met a lovely lady that Mike introduced us too at the start of the night and I apologize I didn't catch your name (old man hearing).

What a great crowd! Was very happy to see the support Mike has. Was bummed out at not getting to meet Elvis though. He's my Bob Mccown/John Derringer.... Will it ever happen?

Al and his band the Royal Pains crushed it. So friggen good. As for me not being as sarcastic I was trying to be on my best behavior! I did manage to bust Mike's chops a couple times though for good measure.

I apologize to those I didn't get a chance to speak to. I'm pretty shy in social situations so I'm not one to walk up and introduce myself.

Thanks for the invite Mike, Erin and I had a great time.

June 28, 2019 @ 12:14 PM

So sorry to have missed such a great event. I checked out some of the stream at the airport while I was waiting for my flight home and was definitely jealous. The music sounded great, and it looked like a great turnout. Will definitely be there for the next one!

June 28, 2019 @ 12:59 PM

Chuck 99

Last night, I met someone who crashed the event. He admitted that he has never listened to your podcast, but heard about TMLX from a friend.

I enjoyed discussing podcasts with other listeners and I agree that the GLB staff is very cordial and considerate with us newbies who have never visited the brewery before.

I took home a six pack of the Blonde Lager because I live too far to purchase it directly from the brewery and it is not available in retail outlets. I tried it for the first time last night. What a bargain! The quality is comparable to other good craft lagers and it costs nearly a dollar a can less!

The Royal Pains and Lowest of the Low were terrific. And the birthday cake was a nice touch.

June 28, 2019 @ 1:07 PM

Anyone going to see the Stones tomorrow?

Its comical to see the list of rules. No drugs?

70 yr olds still playing rock & roll. Probably worth it more than seeing The Who. Did you hear Springsteen's new album. What a sack of shit. Now this guy is dressing up like a cowboy & trying to sing cowboy songs.

AUTOTUNE, Cher's secret weapon used by all these geezers.

Baseball sucked last night. My Indians lost and boy did they ever lose. Yes, I love the Orioles, but not when they smacked my Indians really good. Orioles won't be in the playoffs. Indians could be there, but if they keep playing like they did last night, they won't be there. My Diamond backs also lost and that really sucks big time. Well, yes, it's Canada Day on Monday. Take God out of Oh Canada and put that other Oh Canada back in. It's better if you take God keep our land out of Oh Canada. We don't need God in Oh Canada. I hate Bruce Springsteen. I can't stand him. I never did like him. The boss. Bob Seger is millions of times better than Bruce Springsteen. John Mellencamp is millions of times better. As for the Stones, I don't like them.

Happy Canada Day Everyone:
A few thoughts.
Neighbors behind us have a MAJOR party on Sat. of July 1st weekend, Last year police were called by others about the noise & they told them to tone it down at 2AM. Someone else called at 3AM. It was very noisy & by 4AM all was quiet. I wasn't any of the complainers.
If Kawhi & KD team up for the same team next year he will be gone. Although!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marner has to realize what market he plays in & go forward with a bridge 2-3 deal to go to the promised land, If he's offer sheeted for 11-13MM Dubus let him go for 4 1st round draft choices. Hometown discount just like John T who could have got more from other teams but wanted to come home.
Sorry as was not available for TMLX3 but watched & a great time had by all. Congrats Mike & everyone else, including sponsors who attended.
Canada Day brings everyone together to celebrate & we should all proud to live in this country.

Now that the Leafs have apparently traded Zaitsev, they are now freed-up to sign every current, past, and future NHLer and have won the Cup for the second consecutive summer.

June 29, 2019 @ 9:19 PM

Good that someone agrees with me about Oh Canada. Take God out of there. We don't need God in Oh Canada. Whoever decided to put God in there is dumb, just plain old dumb. My Indians lost again. I can't believe this. Yes, I love the Orioles, but I love my Indians more and I didn't want them to lose 13 to 0. What on earth is fricken going on. My Diamondbacks did win though. That's good. When Bruce Springsteen sings, he sounds like he has a pain in his belly. My dad said exactly the same thing and I agree 100%. Bob Seger is so much better. There is no comparison. Bruce is just not very good. Bob Seger should be the king.

June 30, 2019 @ 7:38 AM

@Beatts I didn't get back into the bar to meet you but wish I had! You are a superfan making the drive all the way in!

@bsmntdwllr73 I was wondering where you were but glad to see you had a good night at DQ. Nothing better than some DQ on a beautiful summer night!

It was so great meeting JJ, Andie, Shelia, Steff, Liz from the Ladies of Toronto Mike!

The Royal Pains were awesome and usual and The Lowest of the Low! So amazing to hear them at an intimate event!

June 30, 2019 @ 1:24 PM

Well, my Indians won. That's great. They finally won. Now are the Orioles going to win again or did they just want to beat my Indians. My Diamondbacks lost though. That sucks. They got clobbered. When we sing Oh Canada, don't tsing God keep our land, it's oh Canada glorious and free. Also it's not and far and wide. Take that out and put in and stand on guard. That's how I sang it all through school. Bob Seger will be the king. He deserves it.

July 1, 2019 @ 7:24 AM

Happy Canada Day everyone.

On a sad note Tyler Skaggs at 27 years old a starting pitcher for LA Angels passed away today. He last pitched 2 days ago. RIP

July 1, 2019 @ 5:47 PM

No 2019 Lakeshore Mardi Gras.

July 2, 2019 @ 1:57 AM

Well, my Orioles lost. Why do they only win against my Indians. I heard about Tyler Scaggs. Why did he die? I have no idea. Anyway, hot today. Oh well, as long as I don't have to work out in the heat, I'm fine. I'll take it over snow any day. My Coyotes have Phil Kessel now. That's something. He will help them win the cup or at least go to the finals with my Habs. It will happen. I know it will. By the way, my Habs play the Hurricanes on October 3. They don't open against the Leafs this year.

Boo to that. This will be my first August without it since I moved into this hood. I always enjoyed walking over for some Kim Mitchell, Spoons, Helix, Sass Jordan, 54-40, Alan Frew, etc.

July 2, 2019 @ 8:47 AM

@Toronto Mike - There's no explanation mentioned for why it was canceled. Maybe trouble finding sponsors?
I had looked at their website and Facebook page a couple of times in the last few weeks and noticed nothing had been updated since the end of the event last year.

The annual Q107 Canada Day thing at Woodbine Park had a good crowd as usual, but much of the line-up of tribute acts (Radiohead, Prince as the final act) seemed oddly out of place to me compared to the music played over the sound system between the live acts, which was the usual kind of classic/hard rock acts -- AC/DC, Rush, Metallica, etc. -- you would associate with the station (though I stopped paying attention to music radio about 25 years ago).

July 2, 2019 @ 10:09 AM

Something you probably won't see outside of Canada -- a CF-100 (1950s made-in-Canada plane) in a park named after a hockey player (Paul Coffey).

July 2, 2019 @ 10:50 AM

Not really surprised at all by the rather 'sudden' cancellation of this year's Lake Shore
Mardi Gras event, what with the complete total lack of current information to date.
Yeah, it really doesn't appear to be a great summer for free live music (at least from the
perspective of even middling name brand recognition!!). And with the majority of the CNE
Bandshell's announced line-up to date being of minimal personal interest, it is also quite
hard to work up even a mere modicum of excitement. Matters aren't also helped by the sad
fact that this will be the second straight summer where ODSP/OW recipients are ineligible for
a completely free admission (sigh...). (And the sniping 'bout me being little more than a
freeloading bum starts in 3,2, 1!! Although please kindly do note that I avoided yesterday's
free Mandarin, heatstroke-inducing chow-down like the proverbial plague!!!

See, I can't really get too invested in the tired likes of April Wine droppin' by for the second
time in five years, especially when there is absolutely no chance that they will break out their
sleeper 1982 track "If You See Kay" (figure/sound it out for a cheap thrill, LoL!!). Plus, the
opening weekend offers a six-pack of U.S.-imported tribute bands 'celebrating' the 50th
Anniversary of Woodstock (Sorry, but I'd much prefer a heartfelt Fyre Festval Memorial
in its place!!). And quite frankly, this whole post- hippie nightmare leaves me more than
a little bit flaccid. (In much the same way that Sandra Bernhard's completely pointless and
ultimately useless Playboy pictorial way back in the fall of '92 kinda did!!).And besides, shouldn't
a potentially Patchoul-Scented Shitshow like this one be limited to the Midway Stage?

Speaking of that particular lower-tiered stage, it would strongly appear that the plethora of
cover/tribute acts on offer throughout the rest of the CNE grounds are a lot more promising.
Still, at the very least the Bandshell will feature a performance by noted 80s Synthpop expert
Howard Jones towards the end of August. Gee, I wonder if that mime performance dude from
early in HJ's career is still an integral part of his current live act at this late date?!? Pretty
confident in stating that Monsieur Mime was last seen freestyling it animated-style in Gowan's
(none of that Lawrence crap on my end!) awesome "Strange Animal" video way back in 1985.
Or perhaps it was nearly fifteen years later in one of the videos from Our Lady Peace's turgid
late '99 sonic turdfest "Spiritual Machines"? Either way, I gotta start practicing my Keytar
poses immediately, if not also try to stylize my hair into a fashionable coif like Mr. Jones circa mid-'85. OMINUS SPIRITUS still rules, by the way!!

July 2, 2019 @ 1:52 PM

@Moosegrumpy next event we'll make it happen!

July 2, 2019 @ 2:37 PM

So the rest of the CNE Bandshell schedule has been released and it is as predictably blah as those
previously announced acts: Burton Cummings, Walk of the Earth, & an Asian Hip Hop boy band
combo called Boy Story ( Shhh don't tell Pixar!!). And the incredible Elton John tribute act known as Elton Rohn is no longer listed as performing on the Midway Stage. I guess things are culturally/economically tight all over. TYPICAL!!

July 2, 2019 @ 5:12 PM

@bsmntdwllr73 - It's still listed on the Elton Rohn website, so presumably one of them is presently incorrect and will eventually be corrected. There's also the now-annual Unionville appearance in July, and there's already been other GTA shows at ribfests.
Three of those tribute acts were the Friday night show at the Mississauga Waterfront Festival a couple of weeks ago.
One good thing about seeing them at the CNE midway stage is that some may do longer shows than usual and play some lesser-known album tracks. Apparently when that Kiss tribute band was there a year or two ago, they started right at 7:30 pm, and with two intermissions of about 20-25 minutes kept going until almost 11 pm, playing 15 of the 16 songs from 'Alive!' and a lot more.

July 2, 2019 @ 8:57 PM

twins from bolton

With St. Louis winning the Stanley Cup there is already articles in local newspapers when Alex Petriangalo has the cup in home town of KIng City. "No dates given as will be announced shortly".
10 minutes from my abode & was fortunate to see Lord Stanley in Beeton years ago with Jim Rutherford the Pitts. GM paraded around town & also in 67 when Leafs last won a parade on Yonge St.
He had triplets born June 2018 & I have twins born 1991 & there is a somewhat connection with multiple births & makes this more happy for him & his family. Also 1 of the best DMan in NHL.

July 2, 2019 @ 11:21 PM

My Indians won. That's a great thing. Lots of hits by my Jose as well as Franky Lindor and Jake Bowers. Trevor Bauer pitched a gem. My Orioles lost because they always lose when they don't play my Indians. My Diamondbacks lost another one. That's no good. Well, we're having a Chief Wahoo cake after my Indians win the World Series. Remember it's the first Saturday after the World Series. Of course we will play Bob Seger. He's the best. Bob Seger has a beautiful voice. If you want to hear Bruce Springsteen, too bad. I won't be playing him.

July 3, 2019 @ 7:19 AM

Cheryl can I request "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" be played? That's my favorite.

July 3, 2019 @ 8:49 AM

Barrie Mike

Saw over the weekend that Dana Levenson from CTV News has left after 20 years . Not sure if this is yet again another push out the door or and I am hoping on her terms. @Toronto Mike, have you or anyone else here know whats happening.

July 3, 2019 @ 11:29 AM

Barrie Mike - I saw a clip of it on my phone too, I want to say it's for her own reasons - because Andrea Case said she called Dana a rookie when she first arrived, even though she was not (and Andrea then has been there longer than Dana and may make more, so seems she'd get the push out the door first?) But I could be wrong.

Beautiful day to swim today!

July 3, 2019 @ 12:06 PM

And speaking of Seger, what about his awesome track "Shakedown" from '88, The
classic title tune to a long-forgotten flick starring Peter Weller and Sam Elliott? It's incredibly
hard to forget or even ignore it's mesmerizing chorus tag of "YOU"RE BUSTED!!" Pretty ironic
for Seger to take the side of The Man, a.k.a., The Law, in this tune, but I do believe that his
songwriting contributions were limited to some last minute lyric rewrites. And please don't get
me started on that classic mid-eighties Synthtastic production style! Totally would have been
sweet if he had carried on in that style, but instead he delivered the rather low-key "Real Love"
three years later, complete with that incredible bowel-releasing "Ugh" guttural vocal exclamation
near the end. Even Lionel Richie in the middle of The Commodores' "Easy" couldn't beat that
one. Nor could the inimitable Mickey Thomas in Jefferson Starship's "Jane"!!

July 3, 2019 @ 1:00 PM

That 4-day Roxodus Fest of 'classic' rock acts (Alice Cooper, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, and many others) at Edenvale airport has been canceled only about eight days before it was supposed to happen, they say because rainy weather made the site a likely sea of mud, though others including (former?) paid spokesman Alan Cross don't sound entirely convinced.
I wonder if this might be good news for CasinoRama with some of the acts maybe looking to play a replacement show in the same vicinity in the coming months? They could probably use the business, before they lose much of it to the new 5000-seat Fallsview and 4200-seat Woodbine venues, now both under construction.

July 3, 2019 @ 1:10 PM

Line-up for the annual PNE out west is a lot more impressive than the CNE (as usual): Faux-Styx
With Gowan, Mike Love's Beach Boys, Faux-UB40 with another Campbell bro singing, Smokey
Robinson(!), ZZ Top, Blue Rodeo, Colin James, Collective Soul/Gin Blossoms and Billy "Freakin'" Idol amongst others. Clearly the braintrust behind this seemingly stellar operation know how to get things done!!

With Dana, it's often what's not said. Everything I've seen / read suggests she was forced out.

July 3, 2019 @ 1:41 PM

So when will Ken Shaw get his moment in the s(t)un?!? Seems to me like his salary is undoubtedly in
the top 5 for that station. Perhaps somewhat trailing the likes of Benedict Mulroney and Lisa LaFlamme, who are both more widely-known national personalities. Always amazed by Bell
Media's constant shedding of its key people, especially with all that BB Theory ad money they continue to rake in.

July 3, 2019 @ 1:51 PM

CP24 has been following MLSE plane landing in Tor. from LA & 3 cars driving along the Gardiner.
This is becoming an OJ car chase equivalent. Leave Kawhi alone. His decision to stay or leave is his prerogative. Hope he stays & if he goes as T Mike said at least the Raptors got an NBA championship.
Thanks Kawhi, regardless of your future.

July 3, 2019 @ 2:38 PM

Just to add to my previous post -
Police Involved Following Roxodus Shut Down; Former Employee Under Investigation
Rain excuse for Roxodus cancellation a 'bunch of bunk,' says airport employee
The weather excuse doesn't hold up. It seems work at the site was suddenly halted a week ago, and then one of the guys operating it tried to sell the land he had bought for it back to the airport owner.

July 3, 2019 @ 3:56 PM

@chris ..Remember See-Pee24 main target audience is 20-30 year olds sitting in Mums/Grandmas basement waiting for their Mum/Grandmas to bring down a cheese sandwich, pudding cup and a glass of Gatorade for dinner.
When they do have some free time they take Mom's/Grannies gold to Oliver's to get 30 % of it's value then take the TTC to buy a new XBOX game.

July 3, 2019 @ 4:35 PM

Awesome post, especially see pee 24.

July 3, 2019 @ 4:59 PM

CP24 has always been awful, today they just more proof they are the wart on the news industry. Somebody on air actually said "Kawhi is a very private person, as we all know" at the exact same time they are going full OJ coverage on him.

Sad to hear Dana is leaving CTV. I *just* missed her Sunday broadcast, I had no idea that would be her last. I remember seeing her on CTV/CFTO for a long time, but she always looked great. Hope to see her again.

As dumb as the CP24 Kawhi chopper was, I'd have made the same call. Give the people what they want... they have 24 hours to fill!

I just didn't tune in. I really don't care to read/hear any speculation or reports on Kawhi until his decision is announced. Then, I'll either be ecstatic he's staying a Raptor or sorry to see him go, but they can never take our 2019 NBA Championship away from us!

@ToMike, I am looking forward to all of the people who loved John Tavares choosing to play at home as a free agent, crucify Kawhi if he chooses to play in his hometown.

Like you, I would love for him to stay, but I can't hate the guy if he decides to go home (and away from the Eastern Conference) the year he was here, he did more than anyone can ask for.

The only positive if he chooses to leave is that the whole city can use CP24 as a scapegoat, and even if they had nothing to do with it. I will be more than happy to pile on blaming them.

July 3, 2019 @ 10:33 PM

Okay. You got it. Ramblin Gamblin Man coming up and Shakedown coming up. Of course I'll play them. Just be here the first Saturday after my Indians win the World Series. My party will be a blast. Tron - real fans wouldn't boo him - totally different scenario than other guys who did get the boo treatment. I would prefer he went to the Clippers however if he does leave - I don't want LeBron that stacked. I am truly hoping he stays, but he did give us something no other superstar could give us - everything fell into the right place and right time, and so many of our guys may never have seen a chip - I am forever grateful!
